Team India finally opened its account in the T20 world cup after a disappointing show in the first two games. Batting first, Indian openers Rohit Sharma (74) and KL Rahul (69) gave India a brisk start, something they failed to do with Pakistan and New Zealand. Indian top-order faced criticism for not standing up against the formidable bowling unit that Pakistan and New Zealand possess. Also, the middle order failed to chip in when needed the most.

One of the strongest bowling lineups in world cricket, Indian bowlers couldn’t show any impact in the previous two games. But Abu Dhabi witnessed the Men in Blue display dominance in every department. Afghanistan bowlers, who managed to restrict a potent team like Pakistan, had no clue to stop Indian batters. Carrying the momentum that openers provided, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya scored quick runs to post 210 on the scoreboard.

Mohammad Shami provided the early break for his team when he sent the opener Shahzad for a duck. Shami also sent the in-form Afghan shipper Nabi and Rashid Khan and picked three wickets. Ravichandran Ashwin made a perfect comeback and picked two crucial wickets. Bumrah and Jadeja picked one each. Despite a few Afghan batters settling to score big runs, 210 was a mammoth total to chase.

India will face Scotland in their subsequent encounter in Dubai on Friday. A victory in the next two games will keep the Indian team active in the race to the semifinals. However, a lot of math will come into effect.
