5 top batting efforts in WPL 2024 ft. Harman Preet Kaur

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 concluded on a high note as Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated the Delhi Capitals in the final on Sunday, March 17, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

After reaching the tournament’s finals in both editions, DC’s hunt for silverware continued as Smriti Mandhana & Co. made history by winning the franchise’s first trophy in 17 years.

The WPL 2024, which took place over two sites, featured some dramatic confrontations and set a new standard.

The season’s first encounter between Mumbai Indians and DC ended on the penultimate delivery of the game, with S Sajana hitting a six to complete off the chase in style.

    5. Jemimah Rodrigues, 69(33) vs Mumbai Indians

DC lost narrowly to MI in their first game of the season. They tried to even things up when they hosted the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team in the tournament’s 12th encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

In the venue’s debut WPL game, DC players delivered for the spectators, defeating MI by 29 runs to avenge their prior setback. Batting first, the hosts got off to a strong start thanks to Shafali Verma’s hard hitting.

The hero of the event, however, was middle-order batsman Jemimah Rodrigues, who faced the dangerous MI spinners with poise and control.

Rodrigues remained undefeated when he batted in the tenth over, hitting 69 runs off 33 deliveries, including eight fours and three sixes, at a strike rate of 209.09.

    4. Ellyse Perry, 66(50) vs Mumbai Indians

Ellyse Perry, RCB’s all-rounder, demonstrated why she is the best in the business during the important Eliminator game versus MI. Eyeing a spot in the summit fight, RCB faced MI in the tournament’s last game and won, securing a match with DC.

MI started strongly by bowling first, with Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver-Brunt sending RCB openers Sophie Devine and Smriti Mandhana back to the dugout in three overs.

Saika Ishaque struck again in the fourth over, dealing RCB another blow.

Perry kept the game going from one end to the other despite the turmoil. Coming out to bat in the third over, the Australian great maintained extraordinary control and batted until the 20th over, helping her team to a decent score.

    3. Smriti Mandhana, 80(50) vs UP Warriors

Smriti Mandhana delivered the finest performance of her WPL career as RCB faced UPW in the final match of the Bengaluru leg of the competition. Batting first, Mandhana.

And Sabbhineni Meghana combined to propel RCB to 51/1 in 5.3 overs before the latter was dismissed.

The wicket of a set batsman in the powerplay did not disturb RCB much, as Mandhana responded with a knock to recall. E

llyse Perry and the skipper did not allow the early blow affect their game, putting up a 95-run stand for the second wicket.

    2. Beth Mooney, 85(51) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore

The Gujarat Giants had another dismal season, but they must have taken some positives from their victories and defeats.

Despite finishing with a wooden spoon for the second time in a row, they had a match-winner in skipper Beth Mooney.

Mooney, who was named captain in the inaugural edition last year, was forced to withdraw from the event due to an injury sustained in GG’s campaign opener.

She reprised her duties this year, and despite a poor start to the competition as both captain and player, she thrived in the second part of WPL 2024.

    1. Harmanpreet Kaur, 95(48) vs Gujarat Giants

Harmanpreet Kaur, captain of India and the Mumbai Indians, unleashed the beast inside during the second Women’s Premier League season.

She delivered some outstanding performances this season, leading her squad to some vital and dramatic triumphs.

Kaur’s greatest performance came in the tournament’s 16th match, against Beth Mooney’s Gujarat Giants.

Batting first, GG scored a tremendous total of 190/7 thanks to Mooney and Dayalan Hemalatha’s exploits, giving the 2023 champions a challenging mark to chase.
