A Bumpy Road For Daniel Berger as He Withdraws from The Open Championship. With a missed cut in the U.S. Open, Daniel Berger has withdrawn from next week’s Open Championship at St Andrews.
Berger withdrew from the Open because of a back injury, and his replacement was Sahith Theegala, who had finished runner-up at the John Deere Classic. Berger’s No. 62 world ranking was enough to get him on the reserve list. There is a prize fund of $14 million in this year’s Open, but the winner will earn $2.5 million.
Berger has been battling a back injury, which means he withdrew from last weeks PGA Tour John Deere Classic tournament.
The International Golf Federation has recently noted that Tony Finau – a golfer from Florida – has dropped down to No. 25 on the Official World Golf Ranking.
Berger had three top-5 finishes in 2022 then missed cuts, but he was able to end the year with a T-50 at the Masters.
While the victorious Woods has the best winning streak on Tour of all time, he has been replaced in the final match by a player ranked 62nd. The same could be said for Theegala’s only start at the U.S. Open, as well.
Theegala nearly had his first win at the Travelers Championship in June, but a double bogey on Sunday left him two shots behind winner Xander Schauffele when all was said and done.

Unfortunately, due to a lingering injury sustained in March, he has been unable to return to competitive golf and will not be able to compete in this week’s tournament. We have chosen Sahith Theegala as his replacement and are excited for him to get started on the course this week.
