Aakash Chopra on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s choices for India’s match against Afghanistan T20Is
Aakash Chopra has stated that the inclusion of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in India’s team for the forthcoming T20I series over Afghanistan has settled the most contentious question.
The Men in Blue will meet Afghanistan in three Twenty20 Internationals. The first match will be played on Thursday, January 11 at Mohali. On Sunday, the selectors picked a 16-man Indian team for the series. Rohit is at the head and Kohli is back in the mix.

Chopra stated in a video posted on his YouTube channel that if the decision had been made immediately after the last T20 World Cup, Rohit and Kohli would not have been selected. He stated that
“Let’s continue with the elephant in the room. Rohit has returned as captain. Interestingly, I could guarantee you that if this team had been chosen within six months of the 2022 T20 World Cup, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli would not have been present.”
For a long time, the two veteran players were not even considered for the shortest format.
Chopra stated that India’s sluggish top-order batting was one of the reasons for their elimination from the 2022 T20 World Cup. He went on to say that, whereas almost every other team batted energetically, India was relatively defensive. India scored roughly 36 runs in six overs and 60 in ten.
“If he plays in the World Cup, he will only play as captain,” Aakash Chopra says of Rohit Sharma.
Aakash Chopra believes Rohit Sharma will continue to be captain of India in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
While essentially ruling out Hardik Pandya’s comeback as India’s captain, the cricketer-turned-commentator believes Virat Kohli will play in the global tournament.
Chopra finished by stating that Rohit and Kohli were both in the same situation. He went on to say that the selectors couldn’t have chosen one and left the other out.
