Aakash Chopra’s expressed his hopes for the West Indies in the second Test against India saying “At least try to do something”

In the second Test against India, Aakash Chopra’s wants the West Indies bowlers and hitters to bat and bowl with a bit more purpose.

On Thursday, July 20, the last match of the two-match series will be contested in Port of Spain’s Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad. In the second game of the series, Kraigg Brathwaite and company will be looking to rebound after their humiliating innings and 141-run loss in the first one.

Chopra explained his expectations for the West Indies bowling attack in a video posted on his YouTube channel. He noted that their seamers, with the exception of an odd spell from Alzarri Joseph and Kemar Roach, didn’t push themselves hard enough in the first Test, saying:

“I want the West Indies to show some initiative, and I want a somewhat better pitch to start. Because three-three over periods don’t produce any results, I want to bowl with a bit more intention. Increase your level of effort “

    The previous Indian opening continued:

“In T20s, you bowl three- to four-over periods. Even if you are a quick bowler in a Test match, give it your all for five or six overs. At the very least, make an effort. It didn’t look like you put any effort into pushing yourself, with the exception of Alzarri Joseph and Kemar Roach once each.”

The hosts should pick their bowling lineups carefully, said Chopra, noting that a defensive option like Jason Holder was always employed to open a new day or session. Rahkeem Cornwall should also be in shape, he adds, as the off-spinner can challenge the Indian hitters on any kind of surface.

Regarding the West Indies batting, Aakash Chopra‘s said “They need to stand up and deliver”

The West Indies batsmen need to step up their game, according to Chopra, who says:

The batting needs to step up and perform, last but not least. We witnessed either poor shots or no intention to score runs in the last game, so a bit more dedication and effort are needed.

The respected analyst elaborated on his point that the Windies hitters in the first Test were either overly defensive or overly aggressive:

They were extremes; you could either close the shutter or declare that you will only travel in circles. When playing a strong opponent in a test match, neither approach works. Therefore, the West Indies, once a major force in international cricket, have shown quite weak in the first Test match. We anticipate a better Test match with this one.

In their two innings of the Dominica Test, the West Indies were bowled out for 150 and 130 respectively. Alick Athanaze, who was making his debut. Led the team in scoring in both innings with 47 and 28 runs, respectively. None of their players reached the fifty-run mark.
