As Amit Mishra puts it in response to Shahid Afridi’s words of wisdom for Virat Kohli, “Some Retire Only Once.”

As Amit Mishra puts it in response to Shahid Afridi’s words of wisdom for Virat Kohli, “Some Retire Only Once.” Shahid Afridi, a former all-rounder for Pakistan, gave India’s top player, Virat Kohli, some advice on how to handle retirement. However, Amit Mishra, a former leg-spinner for India, gave Afridi a sharp answer the next day. Afridi had said that whenever Kohli decides to retire, he should do it on a high note and not when he is being kicked off the team. Amit Mishra responded to a news story about Afridi’s comments by writing, “Dear Afridi, some people retire only once so please spare Virat Kohli from all this.”

    Mishra’s Tweet, Afridi’s Statement – Here’s what happened.

What initiated Mishra’s tweet was the fact that Afridi has often mentioned retirement and then changed his mind.

“The way Virat has played, the start that he had to his career, he had overcome struggles and work hard before he made a name for himself. He is a champion and I believe there comes a stage when you are headed towards retirement. At such a stage, the aim should be to go out on a high,” Afridi had said on Samaa TV.

“It shouldn’t reach a stage where you are dropped from the team. Instead, retirement should be announced when you are at your peak. It seldom happens though. Very few players, especially cricketers from the Asian region make that decision, but I feel when Virat does it, he will do in a good way and probably end his career in style much like the way he began his career.”

    Kohli’s Form

Kohli had been struggling for a long time, but he got back on track in the Asia Cup. First, he got two half-centuries. And then he got his first T20 International (T20I) century. This ended a drought of nearly three years for Kohli.

Kohli ended up scoring 276 runs in the Asia Cup, with an average of 92 and a strike rate of 147.59. He had the second most runs, behind Mohammad Rizwan of Pakistan.
