India’s squad is likely to be the same: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 15-member Indian squad for the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. This was announced on Saturday, the 30th of July 2022. Once again, the Indian management board decided to give rest to senior players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and others. Shikhar Dhawan is set to lead the team again. He led India to a 3-0 win over West Indies. Deepak Chahar and Washington Sundar are summoned to international cricket after some time. The next difficult task for the selection committee is the selection of the squad for the Asia Cup 2022.

The deadline to give in the names in the squad for Asia Cup is till August 8. It is believed that the committee will be waiting till the last match of the West Indies tour concludes. The match concludes on the 7th of August 2022. The star players like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and KL Rahul will all be missing both the West Indies and Zimbabwe tours. They are likely to return to play their next match in Asia Cup directly. The Asia Cup is set to start on the 27th of August. The final is scheduled to be played on the 11th of September 2022.

It can be said with a degree of certainty that the team picked for the Asia Cup is likely to be the same. The team will travel to Australia for the Twenty20 World Cup in October-November. The same set of players is likely to feature in the six T20I games against Australia and South Africa in September and October. The selectors want to give the team management a sufficient number of games to play before the World Cup begins.

A health update on Rahul was discussed at the selection meeting on the 30th of July 2022. It was revealed that the Karnataka batsman has still not fully recovered from Covid-19. He is expected to be fit to play in the Asia Cup. The Asia Cup has been relocated to the UAE from Sri Lanka recently by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

India has tested plenty of combinations in every format in the T20I series since the conclusion of the Indian Premier League 2022. The management has also tested options regarding new captaincy in the form of Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya in the last two months. But they are likely to choose a strong and experienced squad for Asia Cup.
