Athlon Sports says two Michigan football players will break out: The Michigan football team is off to a strong start in fall camp, and the new season will begin soon.

The Wolverines will have a huge amount of holes to fill on the defensive side of the ball when the 2021 season begins, but Michigan will be getting back a significant amount of experience from players who did not start last season.
The Wolverines play so many different players in each game that they won’t have an experience problem by 2022 since they play so many different players. Hassan Haskins and Andrew Steuber are the only two offensive starters who won’t be back for the 2022 season for the Wolverines, but the rest of the Wolverines’ offence should be very dangerous in the upcoming campaign for Michigan.
During the so-called “preseason” of college football, one of the most common topics of conversation is which players will have their breakout years. A list of fifty athletes who Athlon Sports believes could have breakout seasons in the year 2022 has been compiled. Junior Colson and Donovan Edwards, both of the University of Michigan, were named to that list.
Junior Colson, defensive back for Michigan
With only three starters returning for the 2022 season for the Michigan defence, the Wolverines are hoping for fresh players to emerge. After tallying 61 tackles as a true freshman the previous season, you can be sure that Colson will make a name for himself.
Colson, who played for Michigan as a true freshman in the previous season, finished fourth on the team with 61 tackles and quickly established himself as a star for the Wolverines.
Although the Wolverines have seen their fair share of elite linebackers come through Ann Arbor throughout the years, you won’t find too many of them make a huge impact as freshmen. However, Colson is an exception to this rule. Following the conclusion of the 2021 campaign, he was named to the freshman All-American team.
Colson will be asked to anchor the linebacking core alongside Nikhai Hill-Green heading into the 2022 season. Next year at Ann Arbor, you can anticipate an even more explosive performance from Colson.
Donovan Edwards, a sophomore on the team, is the next player to be mentioned by Athlon Sports.

Because Hassan Haskins has decided to pursue a career in the NFL, head coach Jim Harbaugh will be relying heavily on Blake Corum to carry the ball the majority of the time. Edwards is far too skilled to sit on the bench, therefore one can expect him to play a significant role in the offensive attack.
Since Jim Harbaugh became the head coach at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, he has fielded a number of running backs, but there has never been a genuine “workhouse.”
This year will be the same as the others. This season, the Wolverines will be represented on the field by Blake Corum, Donovan Edwards, and most likely one more player. Over the course of the past year, we have caught glimpses of the many reasons why Edwards was a five-star recruit who could have attended any school in the country of his choice.
We are aware that Edwards is a capable runner given that he plays the position of running back; yet, during the game against Maryland in the previous season, we were able to see the exceptional player that Edwards truly is. During the game against the Terps, Edwards had 10 receptions for 170 yards and one touchdown. During the 2022 campaign, Michigan will have a wide variety of options for how to utilize Edwards’ talents.
Both of those selections from Athlon Sports have been quite respectable, but as is the case every year, there will be other players who really come into their own throughout the 2022 season. There is a possibility that the list contains a second David Ojabo—that is, someone who suddenly appears on the scene but no one mentions them.
