Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won India’s first men’s doubles gold medalists at the Games. In the final, they defeated England’s Ben Lane and Sean Vendy in straight games.

The Satwik-Chirag duo followed in the footsteps of double Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and All England runner-up Lakshya Sen, both of whom earned yellow medals on the day.

“It’s a wonderful sensation, a new beginning. India had never won a gold medal in men’s doubles before. It’s a terrific feeling to know we can accomplish it and will keep going. It’s a perfect day for badminton players. With Sindhu winning gold, there is no turning back now “Rankireddy explained to India Today.

On the last day of the Commonwealth Games 2022, India’s badminton team won three gold medals in a row. At the Commonwealth Games, India’s top doubles combination of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy earned the country’s third gold medal on the badminton court with a straight game triumph against England’s Ben Lane and Sean Mendy. The Indian duo triumphed 21-15, 21-13.

India thus ended a successful badminton season with three gold medals, one silver medal, and two bronze medals.

The Satwik-Chirag duo followed in the footsteps of double Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and All England runner-up Lakshya Sen, both of whom earned yellow medals on the day. Kidambi Srikanth won the bronze medal in the men’s singles while Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand won the bronze medal in the women’s doubles.
