The surprise runner-ups of the FIFA World Cup 2018, Croatia punched well above their weight in that tournament as they went past any and every team that came their way. Sadly though, there was just no answer to France in that edition of the World Cup, as they defeated Croatia 4-2 on that fateful night. Since then, they haven’t been at the same level as they only managed to get to the Round of 16 stages in the Euro 2020. The Croats will be hoping to do something similar to 2018 in Qatar.
Along with Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Cyprus, and Malta in Group H for the World Cup Qualifiers, Croatia came out on top. In a difficult Nations League group that included Denmark, France, and Austria, they finished first with seven victories out of ten games played. They drew two games and lost one.
