James Anderson’s, an expert pacer who went wicketless on Day 1, gave England an amazing start on Day 2 of the fourth Ashes Test on Thursday (July 20) at Old Trafford in Manchester.

After the visitors started their innings at 299-8, the 40-year-old dismissed Australian captain Pat Cummins off the first delivery. The dismissal came in the 84th over of Australia’s first innings when Anderson bowled a pitched-up delivery around off.

While trying to drive, Cummins instead handed the ball to Ben Stokes at cover point for his English opponent. The visitors lost their first wicket of the day without adding any more runs to their total as Stokes made a good low catch.

    View the dismissal video below:

After only managing three wickets in the previous two Tests. Anderson will now try to work his magic in the second innings to accomplish his goal of 700 Test wickets.

On the list of players with the most Test wickets. The Lancashire-born bowler is just behind Shane Warne (708) and Muttiah Muralitharan (800).

Anderson was not selected for the third Test at Headingley, which England won by a margin of three wickets to maintain their lead in the best-of-five series. In order to force a decision in the fifth Test, the hosts must now win the fourth Test.

The legendary status of James Anderson’s wasn’t lost in two games, according to Nasser Hussain

After James Anderson’s lackluster performance in the first two Tests, former England captain Nasser Hussain defended him, saying Sky Sports:

I am overjoyed that England invited James Anderson back. He is a legend who has bowled on two featherbeds. In two games, you don’t lose your legendary status.

    Hussain went on:

He is competing on his own field, and the breeze there is ideal for his outswing. The battle between Broad and Warner is first, followed by the local hero at the other end.

Australia are 317/9 after 89 overs in the fourth Test, with Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood at the crease.
