Doubles Spotlight and Grand Slam Winner Arevalo’s Mantra – ‘If You Work Hard, Dreams Can Come True.’ At the beginning of June, Marcelo Arevalo created history at the Roland Garros. By lifting the trophy on the clay of Paris with Jean-Julien Rojer, the Salvadoran became the first man from Central America to win a Grand Slam men’s doubles title. This was a milestone in the history of tennis in Central America. However, Arevalo has a plan to make sure that this won’t be the last time.
Hermanos Arevalo Tennis Academy
He revealed about the project he had started with his brother, former ATP pro-Rafael Arevalo, in 2019. It’s called the Hermanos Arevalo Tennis Academy, and it gives kids in need a chance to play tennis. They have given those kids the opportunity to go to the academy and practice for free during certain times. The goal was to make them think they could play professionally or, if they wanted to go in a different direction, to give them a free college scholarship that would change their lives.
Arevalo’s Grand Slam Win
Arevalo’s win at Roland Garros put him in the spotlight in El Salvador, where he got a lot of support for his success. He said that it was nice to see that people understood how important it is to win a Grand Slam title. Arevalo was even asked to meet President Nayib Bukele, and the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador called him a “Worthy Son of El Salvador.” Arevalo wants to make the most of the sudden attention on him and tennis in general because of what he has done.
Arevalo’s Early Life and His Dream
Arevalo knows what it’s like to start from scratch and build something. His hometown of Sonsonate, a small city 80 kilometers from the capital San Salvador, didn’t have any tennis courts until he was 14. His father fixed this by building two courts himself. Arevalo wants to be just as involved at the tennis academy whenever he can. This is made easier by the fact that his brother Rafael is now the president of the Salvadoran Tennis Federation, which has helped things move along.
In a recent interview, he said, “I hope I can motivate those kids to believe that big things can happen. If you choose the process, if you work hard, dreams can come true.”
