Eddie Nketiah’s double propels Arsenal into a FA Cup matchup with Man City

Edward Keddar Nketiah is an English professional footballer who is a striker for Arsenal in the Premier League.

After defeating third-tier Oxford United 3-0 on Monday, Arsenal now faces Manchester City in the FA Cup fourth round thanks to two goals from Eddie Nketiah.

At the Kassam Stadium, the floodgates were opened by a header from Mohamed Elneny after the Premier League leaders failed to score for more than an hour. The victory was then completed by Nketiah, who now has four goals in as many games since the World Cup break.

According to Nketiah, “We had to up the level as it wasn’t good enough from us in the first half,” and I believe that we did so in the second.

“We’re up for it, even though it’s not the best draw.”

In the absence of the injured Gabriel Jesus, Mikel Arteta named a strong team with his preferred front three, with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli flanking Nketiah in the attack.

Arsenal had a lot of possession

Before the break, Arsenal had a lot of possession, but they couldn’t come up with any clear chances. They were even more annoyed that Elliott Moore didn’t get a penalty for handball when he blocked Albert Sambi Lokonga’s shot.

Fabio Vieira, a player who does not typically make Arteta’s starting lineup, was given a chance to shine, and the Portuguese player made his mark with two assists after the break.

Elneny powerfully headed in the inviting free kick from the former Porto midfielder for the Egyptian’s first goal since 2021.

After Jesus’ injury, Nketiah continued to make the most of his extended time on the side.
From Vieira’s through ball, the England under-21s’ all-time leading scorer calmly rounded Edward McGinty and scored empty-handed.

Nketiah added, “Every player wants to play.” I just want to keep supporting the team and am thankful for the opportunities.”

After receiving treatment concerning Arsenal scenes, Saka was replaced, but Emile Smith Rowe’s return for the first time since September provided some solace.

Nketiah added his second of the night with one more brazen completion as he dinked the ball over McGinty from Martinelli’s relax.

The next round, in which the top two teams in the Premier League square off at the Etihad on the last weekend in January, will present a much more difficult test.
