At a Windsor Castle investiture, the 20-year-old received the honor for her contributions to tennis.

In September 2021, Raducanu, an 18-year-old from Bromley in south-east London, won the US Open.

She became the first qualifier of any nationality and the first British woman to win a Grand Slam singles title since Virginia Wade in 1977.

After meeting the King, the former student of Orpington’s Newstead Wood School smiled broadly and posed for pictures.

In a statement released by her agent, GB’s Raducanu claimed the US Open title:I am extremely grateful to have received my honor from His Majesty the King today.

Dame Nia Griffith, a Labour MP who received her damehood at the same ceremony, remarked about Raducanu as follows:I think it is wonderful to see a young person achieve success, and I think it is obvious that she now faces the extremely difficult challenge of balancing success with disappointment.

On Tuesday, British tennis player Emma Raducanu was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). This came just over a year after she became the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam, shocking the sporting community.

When Raducanu, who was 18 years old at the time, won the US Open by defeating Canadian Leylah Fernandez in the final and winning 10 matches without dropping a set, she launched her career to new heights.

During an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle, King Charles presented Raducanu, then 20 years old, with the honor for her contributions to tennis.
