Although they are not a suitable replacement for some of the pitchers who are always on a team’s roster, the players on this list represent the greatest option available from the waiver wire.

    Reid Detmers

Due to the fact that he has been so dominant ever since he rediscovered his slider while pitching in the minors, I am now at the stage where I would start Detmers against virtually anyone. This week’s matchup against the Tigers, who are ranked dead last in runs scored, is a no-brainer of a decision.

    Jose Quintana

Since he is no longer with the Pirates, Quintana should continue to make up ground in the wins column as he has enjoyed back-to-back six-inning outings with his new team and since he is no longer with the Pirates. This week’s games against Colorado and at Arizona are very appealing for him to play in.

    Marcus Stroman

Stroman’s earned run average (ERA) would be 3.39 if it weren’t for a disastrous outing in which he allowed nine runs just before going on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation in early June. This is a point that should be emphasised as frequently as possible. The Nationals do not have their starting lineup together, so he should have an easier time beating them in the first of his two starts this week.

    Josiah Gray

Gray made a strong comeback performance in his most recent start, which took place against the Cubs. He relied on his slider more than his fastball in order to keep the ball within the yard. This will be his first of two starts this week, and the second one will be against the San Diego Padres, which is the more daunting of the two opponents.

    George Kirby

Kirby is back to being a recommended choice when he has favourable matchups thanks to Chris Flexen’s transfer to the bullpen, which has made it more likely that he will regain his job in the starting rotation. Because of this, this week’s matchup against the Angels’ offence, which has scored 3.2 runs per game on average since the beginning of July, should go according to plan.

    Jeffrey Springs

Even though Springs only pitches for five or six innings at a time, he continues to produce solid ratios for his team. The fact that he will be making two starts this week ought to assist in making up for the loss of volume, despite the fact that only one of the matchups (against the Yankees and the Royals) is in his advantage.

    Justin Steele

In his last seven starts, Steele has a 1.95 earned run average and 10.9 strikeouts per nine innings pitched. Even though he has a 1.32 WHIP, which is largely attributable to the fact that he walks too many batters, it is still worth taking a chance on him in a two-start week, especially considering that one of those starts will be against a Nationals lineup that is short on players.

    Johnny Cueto

Cueto has kept his earned run average (ERA) around 3.00 despite continuing to turn in solid starts after quality starts. It’s possible that the only thing keeping him going is his seasoned experience, but if that’s your thing, you might as well take advantage of the two starts this week. However, the matchups between Astros and Guardians have room for improvement.

    Nick Pivetta

This year, Pivetta has been anything but steady, but he made a solid start his most recent game, so there is reason to be optimistic about his future performances. If you are intent on achieving the highest possible volume, there is sufficient justification to take a chance on two games with good matchups away at Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

    Zach Plesac

Recently, Plesac has been a mess, but on Thursday, he threw a masterpiece against the 30th-ranked Tigers lineup by allowing only one earned run over the course of 6 and a third innings while striking out seven batters. This week, he will compete against the same lineup as last time.
