Five of Team India’s most embarrassing ODI defeats

Five of Team India’s most embarrassing ODI defeats. The Indian cricket team has experienced some heartache. Inadvertent losses to minor-league or giant-killing opponents occasionally occurred for India. At times, batsmen were exceptional while bowlers struggled.

Let’s go over the Indian cricket team’s five worst defeats, beginning with a five-wicket loss to Sri Lanka and concluding with a 245-run loss to Bangladesh.

5 Wicket Loss To Bangladesh (World Cup 2007)

Given Bangladesh’s poor history with India, it is difficult to understand the Tigers’ fans’ joy when their team humiliated India by five wickets at the 2007 World Cup.

Mashrafte Mortaza, Abdur Razzaq, and Mohammad Rafique of Bangladesh used their fierce bowling to hold India to 193 runs. The Indian batting order was thoroughly dismantled by Mortaza’s four-wicket haul, Razzaq’s three, and Rafique’s two.

Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahman, and Shakib Al Hasan all amassed scores of 50 runs or more to give Bangladesh the victory and send India home without a point.

10 Wicket Loss To South Africa (2005)

In 2005, the Proteas scored 189 runs to upset the Men in Blue, as South Africa humiliatingly trounced India by 10 wickets at Eden Gardens. Graeme Smith was exceptional because of his score of 134.

India’s batting order imploded with the exception of Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif, who scored 53 and 46 runs, respectively.

However, the five-match ODI series ended with two wins for each team and one game that was abandoned before a ball was even bowled.

180 Run Loss To Pakistan (ICC Champions Trophy 2017)

Five of Team India's most embarrassing ODI defeats

India lost one of their most embarrassing games to Pakistan at the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy at the Oval. The Men in Blue in the India outfit seemed like schoolkids in comparison to a side that they had previously easily thrashed earlier in the series.

Fakhar Zaman’s dismissal was overturned and he was able to score 114 runs off 106 balls as a result. With contributions from every place in the batting order, Pakistan’s innings ended with 338 for 4 wickets.

Mohammad Amir and Hasan Ali, two Pakistani spinners who each took three wickets, eliminated the threatening batsmen as India got ready to bat. India’s chances of winning the trophy were destroyed by a run-out decision, despite the fact that Hardik Pandya’s strong performance gave Indian fans some cause for hope. After India was shut out for 158 runs, Pakistan easily won the championship by a margin of 180 runs.

10 Wicket Loss To Australia (2020)

10 Wicket Loss To Australia (2020)

Australia ruthlessly smashed an unorthodox India in the opening game of the series on January 14, 2020, at the Wankhede Stadium. A contest of stark contrasts took place.

A team used to beat underdogs like the West Indies and Sri Lanka dropped to a pitiful 255 as Kohli experimented with the batting order.

The captain Aaron Finch (110* off 114) and David Warner (128* off 112) both scored hundreds to put an end to the threat, thus even the so-called best bowling lineup in the world was unable to make a difference. The 258-point partnership is currently the most against India for a wicket.

245-Run Loss To Sri Lanka (2000)

The loss by India against Sri Lanka in 2000 is still the most shocking defeat. In the first innings, Sri Lankan batsman Sanath Jayasurya pounded India for 189 runs off 161 balls. Even though other batsmen were having trouble, Russell Arnold achieved his half-century with 52 runs off of 62 balls. The Sri Lankans declared their innings with 299 runs and 5 wickets.

India struggled in its first innings. Only Robin Singh (11 off 38 balls) reached double digits for the entire team. Chaminda Vaas dismissed the starters in the first five overs, giving him a total of five dismissals for the game. India was declared all out for 54 runs in 26.3 overs. Sri Lanka won the Coca-Cola Champions Trophy in the end.
