Freund Says He Wouldn’t Rule Out Leaving Salzburg To Be Chelsea: Mr. Freund has refused to rule out leaving his current position with Red Bull Salzburg to join Chelsea at their new sporting director position as of yet.
According to The Mail, Freund is among the names on the Blues’ shortlist for the role, and has held talks with Todd Boehly. It is understood that talks happened when the Premier League side were pursuing young striker Benjamin Sesko in the summer transfer window. Freund was also present during the Austrian club’s impressive 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night (September 14).
The rumoured link between Chelsea and Swihart is not something that should be ignored or automatically discounted. For example, it was probably too big a leap to say that they’d sign the player straight away a few weeks ago, but it is certainly feasible (as long as they remain in their current position) now. As Salzburg’s sporting director states, nothing can be ruled out when it comes to football.
West London club Chelsea tried to sign Sesko, a promising striker in European football, from the summer. Freund commented: We conversed with Chelsea more than a month ago when they were interested in Sesko. New ownership at Fulham has expressed interest in how the club manages young talent and integrating them into first-team coaching. But these are common conversations with other clubs.

They were so receptive when we let them go, and continued to act with integrity after the departure. They were truly professional, responsible and honest. There wasn’t any hesitation or risk that can often result in a change of coach.
