With the advent of the league, the craze for this sport among the people especially the youth has increased. Popular players like Pradeep Narwal and Rahul Chaudhari are seen as the heroes and icons of the young generation. It is a popular competitive sport consisting of two teams with 12 players. However, at any given time only seven players remain on the field. The players also need specific kabaddi skills to ace the game whether played on mud or a mat.

Every person who is a fan of this sport wants to know about the basic skills of it. A sharp mind, attention to small tricks, an agile body, and a fearless attitude are some of the key abilities of a kabaddi player. Apart from this, fitness is another vital thing that aids the players to ace the game. Well, the kabaddi skills do not end here there are a lot more. Below is a list of some of them. So read on and get some idea of it.

    Types of Kabaddi Skills

There are two types of kabaddi skills that both teams need to win the game- offensive and defensive. It is because with every round the defenders and raiders get interchange. Moving ahead, let’s know about them in some detail:

    Offensive Kabaddi Skills

In this, the raider has to enter the court of opponents and touch their players as many as possible without getting caught and return to his area. It assists him in scoring points for the team known as raid points. Here are some of the offensive skills in Kabaddi the players should know:

    Dubki

It is a move that needs sharp instincts and timing to be pulled off. In this, the raider has to bend low to escape from the chain of defenders from the small gaps. Pradeep Narwal is one of the popular players in Kabaddi who became famous for this move. Also because of this defensive move, he is known as ‘Dubki King.’

    Hand Touch

It is one of the basic skills a raider holds in Kabaddi for defense. It needs good reflexes and proper practice from the player. Hand touch is of five types: running, stopping, hooping, turning, and touch and feint.

    Kicking

Sidekick, curve, and backkick are the several types of kicking used by raiders for offensive skills in Kabaddi. The following move can be used while keeping a safe distance from the antis. In addition, helps in confusing the players and the right to use when the defenders are less in number.

     Lion Jump

Get popular by Pawan Sehrawat in Pro Kabaddi league, the following skill needs unbelievable thrust and power produced from the legs of the raider. In this, the raider jumps over the defenders to reach the midline. It is also known as the most athletic and difficult move to perform.

    Toe Touch

The following skills in only for experienced players. This move is generally used by the raiders to safely touch the feet of defenders without going nearby. For this, players need a flexible body to execute and implement the legs along with timing.

    Defensive Kabaddi Skills

Under this, the defensive team tries to stop the raider from grabbing the points and stops him from reaching his court. The defensive skills of kabaddi are generally about physical force and strength. However, to become a successful defender knowing when to tackle is one of the key qualities. Moving ahead, let’s know about some more skills:

    Block

In this move, the defender tries to stop the raider from reaching towards the midline by blocking his way with the use of his body. For effective implementation, the defender waits for the raider to reach the middle of the court. It needs great strength and help from teammates.

    Chain Tackle

In chain tackle coordination is the key thing to use. In this two or more defenders plan to block the way of the raider by forming a chain. Through one of the holds, they try to stop the raider from moving.

    Dash

In this, the defender moves toward the raider with great force before preventing him from reaching the midline and pushing him out of the court. This kabaddi attack requires brute strength and force to push the player out of the area and grab a point for the team.

    Ankle Hold

The following move is generally tackled by the defenders who are at the corner. As the name states, here the defending team grabs the raider through his ankle while he tries to score bonus points.

    Waist Hold

If you have enough power then the following move is perfect for you. The following tackle needs extreme strength to use. In this, the defenders grab the raider by his waist and keep him in mid-air to disturb his balance and stop him from escaping.

    Conclusion

The game of Kabaddi is one of the most popular and oldest sports that India has by its side. With the launch of Pro Kabaddi League the game again regained its name and fame among the people. The charm of this game lies in the fact that players need specific skills to ace it. Here the above blog was all about the basic kabaddi skills that a person requires for the sport.
