According to CBS Sports’ Jonathan Johnson, if sporting director Luis Campos leaves this summer, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) may look to hire former Liverpool chief Michael Edwards. In May 2022, Campos made his way to the Parc des Princes shortly after Kylian Mbappe signed a three-year contract extension.
Throughout the summer, the Portuguese were in charge of a number of transfers, but the results have remained unchanged. PSG was eliminated from the UEFA Champions League in the Round of 16 just like they were last year. They can only win the Ligue 1 title this season because they were eliminated from the Coupe de France earlier than expected.
PSGTalk says that PSG might try to change the front office in the summer, and Campos might leave after just one season. In his segment, Johnson uncovered the name of the individual the French outfit could bring to supplant Campos as the club’s wearing chief. He penned:
If Galtier and Campos were to leave, “… And another Premier League name that could be of interest could be the former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards,”
Before taking a sabbatical following the 2021-22 season, Edwards served as Liverpool’s sporting director for six years. During his tenure, the Merseysiders won the Premier League in 2019-20, ending a 30-year English title drought.
In addition, they won the Champions League in 2018-19 and received numerous domestic accolades. PSG has grown desperate for the Champions League, and Edwards has a proven track record of developing teams capable of winning it. It will be interesting to see if PSG is successful in persuading Edwards to awaken from his slumber and face the summer heat.
Jurgen Klopp, manager of Liverpool, acknowledges that Real Madrid deservedly won their Champions League match:
In the second leg of their Champions League Round-of-16 matchup on Wednesday night (15 March), Real Madrid defeated Jurgen Klopp’s Reds 1-0. Los Blancos qualified for the quarterfinals with a 6-2 aggregate victory, extending their huge lead from the first leg.
Talking at a post-match public interview, Klopp, who is many times seen redirecting fault, conceded that his group missed the mark, commending Genuine Madrid for their instructing show. Through the club’s official website, the German stated:
“You require a special performance, but we did not present one tonight. Although it was good at times, Real Madrid controlled the game throughout the entire match.
“Ali had to make two sensational saves to keep us in the game because they had the better chances. Madrid came out on top in the end, and because of that, the right team advanced to the next round.
Alisson’s outstanding stops against Vinicius Junior and Eduardo Camavinga in the first half may be what Klopp is referring to.
The Liverpool goalkeeper performed admirably in the 14th minute to prevent Vinicius from scoring from point-blank range. Camavinga scored with a 25-yard piledriver six minutes later. Alisson tipped the ball onto the crossbar to keep Liverpool in the challenge.
