The heartbreaking news comes from the ground that some Indian cricket players are going to retire from the test. 3 cricketers should take retirement from test cricket after completion of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025. If you are a cricket fan, then there is a chance that your favorite player will leave this format. Want to know who is going to take retirement from test cricket? If yes, then be with us. Here, we will talk about the Indian players who are going to retire after the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025. So without wasting our time, let’s know about the Indian cricketer’s retirement from test cricket. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ashwin are the players who will take retirement. Let’s check out more about them.

Indian Cricketers Retirement from Test Cricket

Several shortcomings in the present Indian team were shown during India’s shocking series loss to New Zealand at home. In most tests, Team India was a disgrace. As a result, the Indian cricket team wiped for the first time in a three-day test series at home.

In test cricket, Indian batsmen’s problems have long been concealed by their skill as bowlers. Over the last ten years, Ashwin and Jadeja have performed well and helped India win home test matches. In recent years, they have been the main pillars of the Indian cricket team.

The Asian powerful competitors’ over-reliance on their bowling attack was made clear by New Zealand’s amazing bounceback during this series.

Now the most-awaited challenge of the year for the Indian team is the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25. India has won the series 2-1 both times they have toured Australia, and they have performed impressively both times. This time, Indian ambitions for a hat-trick of series victories on the Australian coast have been crush by the surprising string of losses against the Kiwis

By keeping all this in mind, there are three Indian cricketers who decided to take retirement. Including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ashwin. Now it’s time to dive into cricket fever and talk about all three players.

Three Indian Cricketers are Going to Take Retirement From Test Format

    3. Rohit Sharma

The Indian captain Rohit Sharma played horribly both as a batsman and as captain during the last test series against New Zealand. In 2024, Rohit’s average in test cricket is a little 29. Although Rohit received recognition for his aggressive style of play in limited-overs cricket, it appeared that he had lost the ability to play for extended periods in test cricket.

Rohit’s recent behavior has been the biggest source of dissatisfaction for the fans. Rohit has wasted away starting points a lot after hitting a couple of early boundaries. Rohit’s careless play not only hurts his numbers but also puts the middle order at risk from the new ball.

Although Rohit has performed well for India in limited-overs cricket, his time in the longest format may be coming to an end. Players who have performed well in domestic cricket, like Abhimanyu Easwaran and Ruturaj Gaikwad, will have more opportunities now that Rohit has retired from test cricket. Having retired from T20Is at the age of 37, Rohit can now concentrate more on his strongest suit, ODIs.

    2. Ravichandran Ashwin

For ten years, one of India’s greatest players in Asian conditions has been Ravichandran Ashwin. One of the key members of India’s leadership strategy.

The Indian cricket team is now preparing for life after Ashwin, as the next WTC cycle ends in 2027. The 38-year-old Ravichandran, whose replacement, Washington Sundar, is preparing to take the lead role. It will notice by the Indian team, barring this New Zealand series, despite his strong home performances.

Sundar became the most successful bowler in the IND vs. NZ test series. His outstanding batting talent is also showcase in this series, which makes him Ashwin’s perfect alternative.

    1. Virat Kohli

For some time now, Virat Kohli has been playing test cricket in poor condition. In 2024, Kohli’s performance in test cricket has been disappointing. With a horrific average of 22.72 this season, the Indian star has only scored 250 runs in 12 innings.

In the last few years, Kohli’s ability to hit the spin bowlers has decreased. He faces difficulty against left-arm spinners, which can be seen in Ajaz Patel and Mitchell Santner’s performances against Kohli in the IND vs. NZ 2024.

Only once in the previous five years has Kohli averaged 30+. Opportunities in the middle order will arise as a result of Kohli’s retirement from test cricket. Although his retirement from T20Is will be felt negatively by Indian supporters. It will allow Kohli more time to concentrate on his strongest format, ODIs.
