It is unfair to compare Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar to Shubman Gill: David Kirsten: Grey Kirsten, a former head coach of India, thinks it would be wrong to compare Shubman Gill, a young Indian batter, to Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar at this time.
Kirsten was the Gujarat Titans’ batting coach and instructor when the team placed second in the IPL 2023 and Kirsten scored 890 runs in 17 innings, including three hundreds.
He is a young player with extraordinary talent and the drive to become one of the best in the world. Comparing him to Virat and Sachin at this early stage of his journey would be unjust.
He has the talent, in my opinion, to play well for India in all three forms. Kirsten was quoted by Cricbuzz as saying, “You don’t often see that these days, particularly as T20 cricket is developing and progressing so quickly.”
When asked what about Gill has impressed him, former South African officer Kirsten responded, “First, his confidence and self-belief in knowing what he is capable of.” The second is his professionalism and work ethic in terms of how he trains for the games. and lastly, his game sense and the way he combines his skill sets to put on a performance.
In the forthcoming global test championship final against Australia at the Oval from June 7–11, Gill will open the batting with India’s Rohit Sharma. Kirsten wants him to continue learning the game and stay in his narrow circle.
Shubman possesses all the qualifications to excel for India in all formats. Like any player, he will encounter difficulties and setbacks; how he responds to them and continues to advance will ultimately define his long-term success. I would advise him to continue learning and to interact with people who can provide him with reliable advice.
Shubman gave his approval to Kirsten. Gill has the potential to one day serve as a captain. He has the ability to lead, in my opinion. He gets along well with his teammates and has good knowledge and comprehension of the game.
