Jasprit Bumrah will not be able to participate in World Cup due to a stress fracture he sustained.

Jasprit Bumrah will not be able to participate in World Cup due to a stress fracture he sustained. BCCI sources said that top Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah is likely to miss the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in Australia because of a stress fracture. This could be a massive blow to India’s hopes of doing well in the tournament. Moreover, Bumrah’s missing India’s series opener against South Africa in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday wasn’t a good sign.

Just minutes before the toss at the Greenfield Stadium, BCCI announced that Bumrah was injured. “Jasprit Bumrah complained of back pain in during India’s practice session on Tuesday. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him. He is ruled out of the first T20I,” BCCI wrote on Twitter.

    Bumrah and injuries

Bumrah had a back problem and missed the Asia Cup. However, he trained at the National Cricket Academy and played the last two T20Is against Australia. An official said, “Bumrah is not going to play the World T20 for sure. He has a serious back condition. It’s a stress fracture and he could be out for a period of six months.”

Bowling options for the Indian side

India has players like Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar on their standby list for the T20 World Cup. One of them could be added to the main team now.

Chahar did well in the match against South Africa, and he might be picked over Shami because he can bat better lower down the order.

India’s death bowling has been a problem, and the team’s captain, Rohit Sharma, has agreed. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, a veteran fast bowler, has been under pressure because of his poor performances. In Bumrah’s absence, the pressure will be on the young bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Harshal Patel to do well.

    Things have worsened

Bumrah’s injury has made things even worse for captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid. As a result, the Indian team is already looking shaky.

“Losing Bumrah and Jadeja will be huge for India. We didn’t expect that things will pan out as they have. He was rested for the Asia Cup precisely to manage his workload management. Now it remains a question if he was even fit enough to play the Australia series,” a senior official said.

Many senior players have been given enough rest, taking into account how much they have to do. What’s more interesting is that Bumrah has only played IPL games for Mumbai Indians and five Tests, five ODIs, and five T20Is in 2022.“That’s not a lot of cricket, considering that he was rested for Asia Cup, West Indies tour and also some of the bilateral cricket played in India. That’s a lot of rest. As of now he is at the NCA and the rehab will be a long and arduous one. Yes, World T20 is important but he is still young and India’s biggest bowling asset. You can’t take risk with him,” the official said.
