Shah confirmed, echoing the words of head coach Rahul Dravid, that Rohit has flown back to Mumbai to consult a specialist.

He will not play in the third and final ODI on Saturday, but a decision on his availability for the Test series beginning on December 14 will be made later.

Jay Shah, secretary of the BCCI, provided an official update on the fitness of the opener amid reports

India captain Rohit Sharma would not play in the two-match Test series because of a dislocated left thumb.

Shah confirmed what head coach Rahul Dravid had said and said that Rohit had flown back to Mumbai to see a specialist.

He was evaluated by the BCCI Medical Team and scanned at a Dhaka-area hospital.

In a press release, Shah stated, “A call on his availability for the upcoming Test series will be taken later.”

It would take a miracle for Rohit to regain full fitness and rejoin the squad in time for the Test series, despite the BCCI’s decision to keep the cards close at hand.

In most cases, it takes at least two weeks for a dislocated finger to heal, and the India captain also got a cut that needed stitches.

In the second ODI, Rohit batted with a thumb that was heavily taped up in an effort to win the match and keep the series alive.

However, given India’s busy home schedule with the series against Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and Australia, it is unlikely that he would take the same risk for the Test series.

    KL Rahul will lead India

KL Rahul will lead India in the Test series if Rohit does not recover, and Abhimanyu Easwaran, who is currently with the India A squad in Bangladesh, will be added as a backup opener.

According to BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Friday, a decision regarding injured India captain Rohit Sharma’s participation in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which begins on December 14, will be made later.

On December 7, Rohit sustained a thumb injury while fielding in the slips in the second ODI against Bangladesh in Mirpur.

He was evaluated by the BCCI Medical Team and scanned at a Dhaka-area hospital.

The BCCI will wait for an update on the Indian skipper’s availability

But it is safe to say that Rohit won’t be able to train and then play in a five-day match starting Wednesday because of the dislocation and stitches.

It also involves fielding in addition to batting.

It remains to be seen whether India will take the risk in a Test series against Bangladesh given the packed schedule of white-ball matches in January.
