SFU and TSK 15th match of the inaugural MLC began at 3 AM IST on July 25. The thrilling encounter had a tight outcome, but Super Kings defeated the Unicorns in the last over to advance as the third team to the playoffs.
Even though the San Francisco Unicorns lost Marcus Stoinis, Shadab Khan, and Finn Allen early, they enjoyed a strong start. After scoring a courageous cameo of 49 (30), Wade got right to work, while Bishnoi added a 21-ball 35. After trading lusty punches at the latter stages of the innings to push Unicrons to 171, Aaron Finch and Haris Rauf subsequently concluded strongly.

TSK’s innings got off to a bad start as they lost their first two wickets for just 11 runs when Carmi le Roux and Haris Rauf were on the attack. Milind Kumar was swallowing several dots while being stranded at one end. Then Super Kings were reduced to 92/5 in the 14th over as David Miller (10) and Santner (7) both suffered early losses. To gain some momentum, though, Milind Kumar made the decision to act quickly and took on Shabad.
When Daniel Sams entered the game, he immediately began slamming the ball. They strategically targeted Stoinis’ 15th over, scoring 17 runs in it. Then Sams went after Shadab, hitting a hat-trick of sixes while scoring 16 runs off that over. Ultimately, TSK easily completed the chase and won the match by two wickets with five balls remaining.
The Texas Super Kings have now successfully completed the regular season and have moved up to second place in the point’s standings with an NRR of 0.570. The other two groups that have made the playoffs are Seattle Orcas & Washington Freedom.
San Francisco Uniforms are still in the running, but it doesn’t look good for them to advance to the playoff round. To guarantee their place in the playoffs, Seattle Orcas must overcome MI New York by a substantial margin.
MI New York, with a super NRR of 1.319, are ranked fourth. They are scheduled to meet Seattle in a game that might decide their fate. Either of the two clubs will advance to the playoffs depending on how this game turns out. The Los Angeles Knight Riders had just one victory from five games, and they are thus officially eliminated from the competition. They won’t participate in this competition any more.

In the powerplay after choosing to bat first, Unicorns were two down. Allen, Stoinis, and Shadab did not contribute much, but Wade at the top established the tone. For the third wicket, Shadab Khan and Matthew Wade contributed 54 runs. With the exception of a big six, Corey Anderson had trouble with timing until he was able to exit.
The innings did not get any momentum till Bishnoi was removed. He scored 35 in 21 balls, and captain Finch added a cameo of 19 in 10 balls. Coetzee, who finished with numbers of 4/31, demonstrated the two-paced character of the wicket with his variations. San Francisco Unicorns reached 171/8 in their allocated 20 overs after scoring 51 runs off the final four overs.
Rauf’s final ball six and Aaron Finch’s 19 off 10 helped the Unicorns complete their innings on a strong note.
With a stellar performance of 4 for 31, Gerald Coetzee was the best bowler for the Super Kings. While Santner and Sams both claimed two wickets.
SFU and TSK
TSK got off to a terrible start when attempting to outscore 172 by losing both Cody Chetty and club captain Faf du Plessis for ducks. At four, Milind Kumar arrived and helped Conway steady the ship. Before Conway was bowled out for 30 in the ninth over, the pair had accumulated 47 runs for the third wicket. TSK was reduced to 92/5 and needed 80 in the final seven overs since Miller and Santner’s contributions were minimal.
Sams (42 off 18), who began slamming right away, provided strong assistance for Milind Kumar (52 off 42), who increased the pace of his scoring. They pounded out 70 in only 26 balls, putting TSK just one ball away from victory. The San Francisco Unicorns kept the game close for the most of the innings while maintaining a lead. Plunkett, Le Roux, and Stoinis each took one while Rauf and Shadab Khan both took two. Sams cleaned up Shadab and took 21 from the 17th over, which shifted the tide. In order to secure the victory for TSK, Savage stayed to the very end and took a huge hit in the penultimate over.
