Moeen Ali, an all-rounder, rejoins England’s Ashes squad after retiring from Test competition: Moeen Ali, an all-around spin bowler for England, has returned from Test retirement to the team in time for the first two Ashes Tests against Australia, which begin on June 16.

Jack Leach, who was removed from the original 16-man team on Sunday after suffering a low back stress fracture that prevents him from playing in the five-match Ashes Test series, was replaced by Moeen.

“Warwickshire spin-bowling all-rounder Moeen Ali has been added to the England Men’s Test squad for the first two Men’s Ashes Test matches against Australia starting at Edgbaston on Friday, June 16, 2023,” the England and Wales Cricket Board announced on Wednesday.

Following discussions with test captain Ben Stokes, test head coach Brendon McCullum, and managing director of England Men’s Cricket Rob Key, the 35-year-old all-rounder who retired from test cricket at the conclusion of the 2021 summer has reserved his decision.

“We talked to Mo (Moeen Ali) about playing Test cricket again early this week. Mo is eager to join the team and play Test cricket once more after having a couple of days to think things over. His extensive experience and all-around talent will help our Ashes campaign, according to Rob Key, managing director of England Men’s Cricket.

The off-spinner will try to increase his total of 64 Test appearances. In Test cricket, he has 195 wickets and 2,914 runs scored. On June 16, he will celebrate his 36th birthday at Edgbaston during the opening Test.

On Monday, the England delegation will arrive in Birmingham. They will begin working out at Edgbaston on June 13.
