NBA Rumors: Steph Curry is expected to be an unhappy man if Golden State Warriors don’t offer a max extension to 4x All-Star

Fans in the Bay Area are unsure if owner Joe Lacob would agree to extend the contracts of four significant players this summer. Four players are waiting for a contract extension: Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green, Jordan Poole and Klay Thompson.

Lacob reportedly doesn’t want to sign huge checks because keeping everyone happy would require “astronomical luxury-tax penalties.”

It’s a good thing that Green and Thompson don’t have to worry about their team abandoning them. With them, the Golden State Warriors would not have defeated Boston in 2022 and won their fourth championship.

Both Green and Thompson should be given credit for helping Curry revolutionise the game because they are integral parts of the Warriors’ system.

Curry, who has a long-term contract with the Golden State Warriors, will be displeased if the team does not provide Draymond Green with the maximum contract extension.

Anthony Slater and Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic report:

“The NBA Finals MVP’s reaction to Green’s lack of a contract deal is a greater worry. If the Warriors traded Green because they didn’t want to pay him, multiple sources indicated Curry would be unhappy. Curry has a four-year contract, and he wants Green and Thompson to be with him for the duration of that time period.”

There are reports that Green wants and expects a four-year contract, according to Slater and Thompson. On Aug. 3, he will be eligible for a contract extension. For this season, he’ll earn $25.8 million, with a player option for $27.4 million in 2023-24. A contract extension is almost always discussed with players only in the final year of their current deal, although even Curry did so.

Golden State will almost certainly extend Green’s contract next summer, as his current deal expires after this season. It’s possible that they’ll extend him next week, but he’ll have to opt out of his final year and accept a four-year deal worth $138.4 million. To put it another way, it will net him an additional $3.4 million over the course of the next two years.

Whether Lacob is willing to spend that much money is unclear, but he runs the danger of alienating his franchise’s top performer by failing to sign Green to an extension.

Does Steph Curry want to stay with the Golden State Warriors and get paid?

This season, the Golden State Warriors racked up a staggering bill of $364 million, and the team’s ownership is understandably unhappy. Next season’s payroll is likely to be higher, raising the question of whether or not the team will be able to keep all of its players without offering someone less than they are worth.

Jordan Poole, like Jalen Brunson and Anfernee Simons, is expected to sign a four-year, $100 million contract extension, according to multiple sources. There are no better players in the league than Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins has become a must-have.

Golden State owner Joe Lacob, according to The Athletic’s Anthony Slater and Marcus Thompson II, isn’t willing to pay everyone and bear a hefty luxury tax burden. According to them:

“Pay everyone… extend the contracts of the Warriors’ core players and keep them for several more seasons. It is permitted per CBA regulations. Sources, on the other hand, say that’s not an option for the franchise. Luxurious-tax penalties may skyrocket by keeping all of those players on the roster for another season…. They’d be venturing into territory that Lacob has made it clear he’s not keen on exploring.”

Due to increasing tax worries and a two-timeline plan for financial collision, the Warriors have four high-profile extension prospects. Information on Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, Jordan Poole, and Klay Thompson has just been released.

“The numbers you were spouting out were in the 400s and 500s. Those figures are implausible in the extreme. No, they aren’t. I’ve already gotten myself into some hot water with the rest of the team. We’re in hot water because of where we are right now.”

Time will tell what the Warriors do with all the contract extensions they have coming up in the near future. In order to keep winning championships, the Warriors will need to keep everyone in the locker room happy, including Steph Curry himself.
