On Day 3 of the WTC final, India Needs to Perform 3 things Correctly: India’s mistakes were properly emphasized by Australia’s bowlers on the second day of the World Test Championship final. Australian fast bowlers took advantage of the ideal conditions on the Oval field by settling into the ideal length and taking over the match. India was battling at 151 for 5 at the close of the second day of play in response to Australia’s innings total of 469.

Even though the fast bowlers caused the brunt of the damage, Nathan Lyon also claimed a wicket. Lyon dismissed Ravindra Jadeja, India’s highest scorer to date (48), with a dipping and twisting off break that caused a nibble to the first slip. Around a 71-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Jadeja and Ajinkya Rahane, the breakthrough occurred.

India still has a mountain to climb, but they want to think they can climb their way out. On Day 3 of the WTC final, we look at the three things India needs to get right.

    1 Rahane needs a Redemption

When Ajinkya Rahane last scored a century in a Test match, India overcame a deficit to defeat Australia at the MCG. The right-hander has appeared to be largely unscathed, and he must draw on all of his expertise to carry the innings.

Rahane encountered a few difficult situations during his time on the crease that required the assistance of the physical therapist. First, a delivery from Pat Cummins struck his fingers, requiring immediate medical attention. When he missed a hook shot off Cameron Green, he was then struck in the helmet. He has experienced all of this and much more in the past, so if his redemption is to be complete, this is the game he must win.

2 Not lose wickets in the first session

They must maintain their composure and make sure India does not lose any wickets in the first session when Ajinkya Rahane and KS Bharat leave. A session without a wicket will undoubtedly give the team’s locker room some hope, and as the sun beats down, the Australian assault will begin to wear out.

The past two English cricket seasons have seen improved batting against the ancient Dukes’ ball. Consequently, Since the beginning of the 2022 season, 5 and 6 have averaged 53.08 here. This ought to inspire India and the other two overnight batsmen. It won’t be simple, but nothing worthwhile in Test cricket is ever simple. They must put the scoreboard out of their minds and concentrate on keeping their wickets.

3 KS Bharat needs to dig in

Since Rishabh Pant is not present, KS Bharat must take the lead. Similar circumstances occurred during India’s most recent game in England, when Rishabh Pant initiated a counterattack and, along with Ravindra Jadeja, helped India reach a decent total.

Although Bharat is not Pant, his elite numbers are respectable. Day 3 has historically been the best day to bat, so Bharat will need to put in some effort, price his wicket, and bat all day. The onus will be on the wicketkeeper-batter to step up and take advantage of this opportunity since India has already lost Ravindra Jadeja.
