PERODUA Malaysia Masters 2022: Who withdrew names from the event? World No.1 Viktor Axelsen bagged his fifth win for the season last Sunday, 3rd July, at the PETRONAS Malaysia Open 2022. Viktor will not be in action at the current week’s PERODUA Malaysia Masters 2022.

The Danish badminton player is now on a 32-match winning streak. He announced via social media that he is withdrawing his name from the upcoming HSBC BWF World Tour in Malaysia & Singapore.
Axelsen wrote on his social media wall, “I would have loved to compete again in KL (Kuala Lumpur) this week and then in SG (Singapore); however, when I woke up this morning, my body and my head were telling me that it is time to rest and recharge before I step on the court again. I need some days off to rest, celebrate my recent wins with my family, and then build up towards new goals.”
Nhat Nguyen of Ireland got promoted and moved out of the reserves list to take Axelsen’s spot in the draw. It is not the end as there are more on the list of withdrawals. The key among them includes:
- 5th seed Lee Zii Jia
- Carolina Marin
- Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi
- Olympic winner Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin
- Shesar Hiren Rhustavito
- Rasmus Gemke.
Gemke got replaced by Koki Watanabe. Koki will face senior fellow countryman Kento Momota in the opening round.
At draw bottom, the withdrawal of Supanida Katethong allowed Sim Yu Jin, the Uber Cup heroine, to get promoted and move out from the reserves list. She is gearing up for an interesting face-over with the second seed Tai Tzu Ying.
Four Malaysian pairs from the men’s doubles category reserves list got promoted to enter the main draw. The pairs include Goh V Shem and Lim Khim Wah, the 2013 champions with at present different partners:
· Goh with Low Juan Shen
· Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub Azriyn with Lim
Other 2 double pairs from Korea to withdraw names include:
- Baek Ha Na/Lee Yu Lim
- Kim So Yeong/Kong Hee Yong
