Williams has been so dominant throughout her career that even some of her greatest contemporaries have had trouble keeping up with her. She is widely considered to be one of the best tennis players in the history of the sport.

Williams, who has stated that she will compete in the remainder of this year’s U.S. Open, will finish her career with an excellent record. Even though she holds the record for the most Grand Slam titles in the Open Era with 23, and she ranks ninth all-time in total singles titles with 73, none of those numbers tells the complete picture.

Williams seemed to thrive on the attention that comes with competing at tennis’s most prestigious tournaments, which are known as Grand Slams.

    Tournament

For instance, if Serena Williams makes it to the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament, she almost never loses her chance to compete in the championship match. A remarkable forty times during the course of her career, Serena Williams has advanced to the semifinal round of a Grand Slam tournament. She has an extraordinarily remarkable record of 33-7 in those bouts, which she has won all of.

Then there is the matter of Williams’ success against the other great tennis players of her period and how she has fared against them. Venus Williams, Williams’s sister and primary competitor has won seven Grand Slam titles and 49 singles titles during the course of her career. Williams has won a total of 49 trophies in her career. Despite this, Serena Williams has a record of 19-12 against Venus Williams, meaning that she has prevailed in that encounter more often than not.

The competition between Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova was one of the most dominant and one-sided of Williams’ career. During the course of their careers, the two faced each other 22 times, and Williams emerged victorious an astounding 20 times. At one point in time, Williams held a winning streak versus Sharapova that spanned 19 matches. During that time period, Sharapova was only able to claim victory over Williams twice. In her 14 years of professional tennis, Maria Sharapova won five major titles, but she was never able to win against Serena Williams.

    Titles

Additionally, Williams has a winning record versus several other renowned tennis players, like Victoria Azarenka (18-5), Jennifer Capriati (10-7), and Justine Henin (8-6). Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka, Jennifer Capriati, and Henin have won a combined total of 26 Grand Slam singles titles. It is only three more than what Serena Williams has won all by herself.

Williams has elevated her game to a new level so that she can compete effectively against the best players in the world. Williams has a staggering career record of 435-120 versus opponents ranked in the top 10, which translates to a victory percentage of 78.0%. Williams has competed in 555 matches against top-10 opponents.

There is a wealth of other success that Williams has achieved that demonstrates his excellence. She showed that she could be successful on any surface, and in 2015, she became the first and only woman to win the Surface Slam, which is awarded to the player who is the first to win a major tournament on each of the three surfaces in the same calendar year.

Williams is also one of only two women’s singles players to earn a Career Super Slam, which consists of championships at all four Grand Slam tournaments, a gold medal at the Olympics, and a year-end championship. Williams has all of these accomplishments, making her one of the most successful tennis players of all time. Steffi Graf is the only other woman to have achieved that particular accomplishment.

If and when Serena Williams decides to call it quits as a professional tennis player, she will be remembered as the most accomplished player of her period and as one of the finest athletes in the annals of American sports.
