After posting the second-highest IPL run total of 890 runs—including three centuries—Shubman Gill went on to win the 2023 IPL Orange Cap. Following Hardik Pandya’s move to the Mumbai Indians, Gill was named captain of the Gujarat Titans in advance of the 2024 Indian Premier League. On Tuesday, December 26, at the SuperSport Park in Centurion, during the first Test match between South Africa and India, Shubman Gill was unable to make a batsman’s stroke. Shubman Gill falls behind in the IND vs. SA 1st Test after Proteas’ successful review is written below.

First-year player Nandre Burger claimed two wickets for the Proteas as the right-hander went out cheaply, scoring just two runs off of 12 deliveries and being caught behind by wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne. Gill was fired following an optimistic assessment conducted by South Africa. Burger delivered a back-of-length strike that nipped at the side of his leg. Before the ball got to the wicketkeeper along the leg side, it gave the gloves a slight advantage.

Shubman Gill failed the audition in Cheteshwar Pujara’s absence and fell for just two runs in the first Test between India and South Africa, continuing his poor performance in the match. At No. 3, Shubman Gill was expected to excel because the selectors weren’t just focused on Cheteshwar Pujara. Shubman, though, was unable to translate his white-ball success into Test cricket. Shubman Gill gave up to rookie Andre Burger after 12 deliveries in the first Test between India and South Africa.

Nandre Burger delivered the ball down the leg side, back of the length, and Shubman gloved it. Shubman Gill has been hailed as the next great thing in Indian cricket for a while now, but he has been hindered by a delayed weight transfer onto the front foot, which frequently results in him losing his stumps.
