Souths star out for crunch clash; Panthers rest 13 players; NRL 2022 Schedule: Todd Payten, Cowboys coach, is seen making a shock call on his halves pairing with star five-eighth Tom Dearden still sidelined.

Damien Cook, the South Sydney star, is eliminated due to Covid-19. There was chatter that the prime minister was set to intervene and allow him to play. On the other hand, Latrell Mitchell has been named.

Kevin Walters, Broncos coach, has faced consecutive floggings with a player being dropped.

The Roosters will be coming forward without three of their stars. Ivan Cleary has given rest to a host of players. Tevita Pangai Junior makes his return for the Bulldogs.

On the other hand, Edwards and Yeo are the favorites who can win the honor. But their chances have been diminished because coach Ivan Cleary confirmed they, and 11 other starting players, will be given rest for this weekend’s final-round clash against North Queensland.

“I will buy them a beer,” Cleary made a joke when he was asked about the duo potentially losing out on the award.

Backrower Yeo displayed a point of 17. He was only two votes behind leader Ben Hunt. Edwards has been sitting with points 13.

“I think they are both deserving of (the Dally M),” Cleary said. “It is a hard one, the Dally M, because it is a subjective opinion and you can only pick three guys on the field. All I know is those guys are an 8 out of 10 every week.”

“Yeoy has been playing at a high level every week for a long time now. Both have had great seasons and are valuable for us.“

The mass changes mean that Penrith fans will be getting a glimpse of the club’s rich talent pipeline. Three debutants have been named on the 29th of August 2022. This includes Liam Henry, Tom Jenkins, and Jake Cole.

Utility forward Mitch Kenny was handed the captain’s armband.

“Mitch Kenny will be captain. It is a great honor for him. He has been really good for us this year. He is a good team man, the guys like playing with him. And the guys like having him around. His football is on the up,” Cleary said.

Cleary believes that the reigning title holders have earned the right to have an 11-day preparation for week one of the finals. The final can be on a Friday night showdown against either Melbourne or Parramatta.

“We have earned that through a good season, we’ve had a really good year,” Cleary said.

“We have had a lot of challenges right from the start, being the Premiers, we feel like we have had every team come at us each week, the Origin period, we have had suspensions and injuries and navigated through that.”

The rested players would not be traveling with the team. The players will hold a training session back home. The club’s second-string outfit is placed up in Townsville.

“I think having a solid 11-day preparation going into the finals is going to put us in good stead to play well,” Cleary said.

“You have got more days to work together, we have not had our halfback there for five weeks so that is going to give Nathan (Cleary) and Jarome (Luai) a chance to work together.”

“We do not replicate a game (intensity) but sometimes we get a little close.”

“Absolutely, is it going to be difficult? Are we going to be big underdogs, yes we are,” Cleary said. “The Cowboys have had an outstanding season and are a really good team.”

“But once you take the field, all you can do is your best and that is what we will be doing. We will be preparing to go up there and compete hard and find a way to win the game.”

“We want to go up there and give this game a good shake.”
