    Host Sri Lanka beat the visitors Australia by an innings and 39 runs in the second Test on the back of brilliant bowling from young left-arm spinner Prabhat Jayasuriya. With this, the two-Test series finished in a 1-1 draw. Sri Lanka beat Australia by an innings for the first time in Test cricket history. This victory is great news for Lankans going through political and economic instability. Inflation is at its peak there. In such a situation, cricket there have provided some moments of happiness for their countrymen.

    Visitors had scored 364 runs in the first innings. In reply, the host scored 554 runs with the help of a double century from Dinesh Chandimal (206). Australia’s second innings was bowled out to a score of only 151 runs. Debutant Prabhat Jayasuriya took 6 wickets for 59 runs. Prabhat also took 6 wickets in the first innings.

    5 Australian batsmen did not touch double figure

    None of the Australian batsmen succeeded to face the Sri Lankan spin in the second innings. Five Australian batsmen could not even reach double-figure. Marnus Labuschagne scored the highest 32 runs from Kangaroos. Some other valuable contributions came from Usman Khawaja 29, David Warner 24, and Cameron Green made 23. Steve Smith, who smashed a century in the first innings, scored no runs in the second innings.

    Prabhat breaks Jayavikrama’s record

    Jayasuriya has become the highest wicket-taker of Sri Lankan bowlers in the debut Test. Prabhat broke Praveen Jayavikrama’s record. Jayavikrama took 11 wickets in his maiden Test match against Bangladesh in 2020-21. The world record, in this case, is in the name of Narendra Hirwani and Bob Massey. Both of them took 16-16 wickets in their respective debut match.

    Kangaroos’ first defeat in World Test Championship 2021-23

    The Australian team has lost a Test match for the first time in the current cycle of the World Test Championship. The Australian team had played 9 Tests in which they had won 6 and 3 draws so far.
