Tashkent to Organize World Boxing Championships for Men in 2023 with Record Prize Money
The prize money for the major competition, which will take place in the Uzbek capital from May 1 to 14 next year, will treble from the last iteration.
“We will have a record prize money fund, USD 5.2 million, for the first time in history. The prizes include USD 200,000 for first place, USD 100,000 for second place, and USD 50,000 for each bronze medalist, according to Kremlev at a press conference.
Boxing was not included on the original list of sports for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, which is a big setback for the sport.
Kremlev believes that the boxing community will speak out if the sport is excluded from the LA Games.
“There are millions of people who love boxing, and we are growing in number. Boxing is adored by more than a billion people. Nobody will protest if they try to keep boxing out of the Olympics, in my opinion “said he.
We will do all in our power as a boxing organisation and community to keep boxing in the Olympics, “Added he
Nikhat Zareen, the current world champion, recounted her life story and offered encouragement to the other attendees of the press conference.
IBA is my house. Being surrounded by my boxing family, I feel secure as a sportsperson. IBA’s award of cash for this achievement made me happy, and I thank them for that. Zareen declared, “I’m going to use it to purchase a home in Hyderabad.
