The cricket landscape has changed players quitting national contracts, Tim Southee acknowledges that a growing number of New Zealand players

India was defeated by seven wickets in the first match by the hosts. In the first ODI of the three-match series on Friday at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand beat India’s target of 306 with 2.5 overs remaining.Rain forced the cancellation of the second one-day international of the three-match series between India and New Zealand.
The 33-year-old reflected on both his remarkable career to date and the changing landscape of cricket, which he claimed has occurred quicker than anyone expected during the pre-match press conference on the eve of the team’s final one-day international against India in Christchurch.
The Blackcaps have lost three regular players so far this year because they all chose to play Twenty20 cricket around the world rather than sign central contracts.
In August, Trent Boult was the first player to walk away from his contract. He went on to play in Australia and the United Arab Emirates, and Colin de Grandhomme joined him.

After being left out of the Blackcaps’ plans earlier this month, Martin Guptill became.

The third player to opt out of a national contract. He has since been signed by the Melbourne Renegades, with additional deals possible. After Boult’s release, NZ Cricket offered Jimmy Neesham a central contract, but he turned it down after committing to foreign leagues.

For Southee, who is still under agreement with NZ Cricket, the moves by his kinsmen are basically an impression of where the game is going, with club cricket starting to override global cricket as the head type of the game.

The past few months have been interesting. Most people didn’t realize how quickly cricket has changed.I am currently under contract with New Zealand Cricket and have returned to the IPL this year.During a press conference prior to the game, Southee stated, We’ll see what happens over the coming years.

The landscape of cricket is definitely changing to what it was two to three years ago.

According to Southee, despite the examples he observes around him, he has not actively considered giving up his own contract in his own planning for the future.
Southee has a deal with the Kolkata Knight Riders for the 2023 IPL season, but he could also get a deal with other leagues.

In the meantime, Southee’s three-wicket haul in New Zealand’s ODI victory over India at Eden Park makes him a member of a select group.
Southee became the only player in history to take 300 test wickets, 200 ODI wickets, and 100 T20 International wickets with his three wickets in Auckland.
Southee still wants to take more wickets for New Zealand, as he is in charge of the bowling attack in all cricket formats.
It is unique because no one else has done it before. But I suppose for me, when you look back on your career, you should hopefully be proud of what you’ve accomplished and leave the game in a better position than when you started.Southee stated.
