The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on the 18th of July, 2022 the list of squads for the Indian women’s team which is set to take part in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, from July 28-August 8, 2022.
This is going to be the first time that Women’s T20 International will be featured in the prestigious multi-sport event of the Commonwealth Games.
India is in Group A placed with Australia, Barbados, and Pakistan. The host England is in Group B placed with Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and South Africa.
All matches are set to be played at the iconic Edgbaston Cricket Stadium in Birmingham.
The teams who will win from the respective pools will progress to the semi-finals. India will be playing three games in the league stage of the tournament.
India is set to open their campaign against heavyweights Australia on the 29th of July, 2022, and will be playing its next match against arch-rivals Pakistan on the 31st of July, 2022. In the end, India will face Barbados on the 3rd of August, 2022.
Harmanpreet Kaur is set to lead the 15-member Indian women’s cricket team as the Captain of the team at the Commonwealth Games 2022, which will be held in Birmingham, UK. Smriti Mandhana is selected as the vice-captain.
The Indian Women’s Cricket team recently completed an ODI series whitewash against Sri Lanka and prior to that they also won a 3-match T20I series with a score of 2-1 against the same opponents.
