Dominance without a result is meaningless in football. Only teams that are able to make the most of opportunities will win titles and trophies. Therefore, matches won are the most reliable metric for assessing a team’s quality.

In today’s list, we’ll look at five teams that held their own in 2022 and achieved numerous favorable outcomes. The top five European teams that won the most games across all competitions in 2022 are as follows:

    #5 Barcelona – 31 victories

Xavi took over as manager of Barcelona in November 2021, succeeding Ronald Koeman. He contributed to the turnaround of his team’s fortunes, leading them to an admirable second half of the 2021-22 season. In the 2022 season under Xavi, Barcelona won 14 of 20 La Liga matches. In their remaining six games, they lost three and drew three.

Before being eliminated in the quarterfinals by Eintracht Frankfurt, Barca won two games in the Europa League. Prior to their elimination at Athletic Bilbao in the Round of 16, they also won one Copa del Rey match.

Barca won 12 of 15 La Liga games in 2022 (two draws and one loss) during the 2022-23 season. Prior to being eliminated from the Champions League in the group stage, they had won two matches.

    #4 Paris Saint-Germain — Won 32 games

Mauricio Pochettino led Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to the Ligue 1 title in 2021-22, but they were utter failures in the Champions League and French Cup. In both cup competitions, the French team lost in the Round of 16 stages.

The Argentine manager was replaced by Christophe Galtier prior to the 2022-23 season, which established PSG as a formidable opponent. Galtier’s first game in charge was a 4-0 victory over Nantes in the French Supercup. The following Ligue 1 season, 2022-23, saw PSG win 14 games and draw two. Finally, PSG won four of their group-stage matches in the Champions League and drew two.

    #3 Manchester City – 37 victories

Pep Guardiola led Manchester City to 37 victories in 2022, enabling them to successfully defend their English Premier League title in 2021-22. In the 2021–22 season, the Cityzens picked up all three points in 13 of their 18 Premier League games.

Additionally, they advanced to the UEFA Champions League semifinals, where they were eliminated by Real Madrid. They won three games on their way there. In addition, they won four games to advance to the FA Cup semi-finals before being eliminated by Liverpool.

Finally, they won once in the third round of the EFL Cup before West Ham United eliminated them in the subsequent round.

    #2 Real Madrid — 37 games won

Carlo Ancelotti’s 37-game winning streak saw Real Madrid win the Champions League, La Liga, and Spanish Supercup last year. In the 2021–22 La Liga season, Los Blancos recorded 12 victories, three losses, and four draws.

They won four games and lost three in the 2021-22 Champions League season. They won both games in the Spanish Supercup. Finally, in the Copa del Rey, they won two games before losing in the quarterfinals to Athletic Bilbao.

In the UEFA Supercup, Carlo Ancelotti’s team defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 to get off to a winning start. Los Merengues participated in 15 games of the 2022-2023 La Liga season, winning 12 of those games and losing three (two losses and a draw). In 2022, they won four group stage matches in the Champions League.

Under Jurgen Klopp’s direction, Liverpool won a record-setting 43 games in 2022 across all European competitions. The German manager led the Reds to 16 victories and three draws in 19 Premier League games in 2022. Last season, the Merseysiders came in second place in the Premier League, one point behind champion Manchester City (93 points).

They made it all the way to the Champions League final, where they lost 1-0 to Real Madrid. They won four games, lost once, and played to a draw before the big event. Last season, Liverpool defeated Chelsea in both cup finals to win both the FA Cup and the EFL Cup. They won six games in the FA Cup, while they also won two in the EFL Cup.

They won five of their matches in the Champions League but only lost one. Finally, they beat Derby County in the third round of the EFL Cup before losing to Manchester City in the next round.
