    TWG2022: DAY 1 OVERVIEW OF AIR SPORTS COMPETITIONS. At The World Games 2022, round 1 of the competition for canopy piloting took place on Saturday, July 9, while the drone racing qualifiers were unfortunately postponed owing to the weather.

    In the event of canopy piloting, there are a total of 34 athletes competing, hailing from a total of 16 different countries: Australia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, New Zealand, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, United Arab Emirates, USA, and Ukraine.

    There are a total of 31 pilots competing in the drone racing event, and they hail from the following 20 countries: Belgium, China, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, China, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, and the United States of America.

    CANOPY PILOTING

    The first round of the Canopy Piloting competition saw the successful completion of the four tasks of accuracy, distance, freestyle, and speed, with the United States of America and France presently occupying the first five places on the leaderboard. Other countries competing in this round include: Following Travis Mills (USA), Cedric Veiga Rios (FRA), and Nicholas Batsch (USA), whose names were both featured in the highest ranking in the individual tasks, was Nicholas Batsch (USA), who did not come in first place in any of the rounds but still managed to earn the top spot through consistent performance. 

    Cedric Veiga Rios (FRA) and Nicholas Batsch (USA) were the other two competitors whose names were featured in the highest ranking in the individual tasks. Batsch, who had previously won the canopy piloting category at The World Games 2017, finished in the 22nd position in the speed round after making what he termed a “big mistake.” In spite of this, he has a strong desire to perform very well in the remaining stages of the tournament. Cornelia Mihai (UAE), who won the bronze medal in 2017, is now the highest-ranked woman in the competition, and she is tied for eighth place with Armando Fattoruso (ITA) and Kai Bunkus. Cornelia Mihai was the third-place finisher in 2017. (GER). Cedric Veiga Rios came in ninth overall in the competition in 2017.

    The United States of America’s Curt Bartholemew was a multiple-time winner of the global championship and came out on top at both The World Games in 2013 and the FAI World Air Games in 2015. He ended up with an 86. Nicholas Batsch (United States) finished in fourth place with a score of 81, and Armando Fattoruso (Italy) and Nicolas Coadic (France) tied for third place with scores of 84 each. Cornelia Mihai (United Arab Emirates), Robin Jandle and Jeannie Bartholemew (both of the United States of America), and Jeannie Bartholemew (all of the United States of America) all scored 67.

    Abdulbari Qubaisi of the United Arab Emirates currently holds the lead in the distance competition with a score of 174.87. Nicholas Batsch of the United States came in third place with 160.66 points, placing him behind Cedric Veiga Rios of France, who finished in second place with 161.00 points. Cornelia Mihai, who represented the UAE, was the first woman to compete and ended up finishing in fourth place with 154.49 points.

    Nicholas Batsch (USA) is now in first place with a score of 89.200; he is the current leader. Next in line is Max Kossidowski (GER), who now sits in second place with a score of 87,000. Christian Webber (DEN) came in third place overall with a score of 85.400.

    With a score of 2.332, Cedric Veiga Rios of France took the first position in this round, and Justin Price of the United States finished in a very close second place with a score of 2.362. The advantage held by Kevin Techer (FRA) was calculated to be 2.420.

    Racing

    The pre-race briefing for the pilots and all of the inspections went off without a hitch, and the next edition of the Drone Racing competition is set to take place on July 10th.
