Who is diver Stephen Keenan? What happened to Him: Stephen, a diver from Dublin, had been involved in the freediving scene since 2009.
He had trained hundreds of divers in the Gulf of Aqaba, Spain, and the Philippines and was a qualified instructor-trainer.

Stephen lost his life in July 2017 at a well-known swimming area off the coast of Egypt while attempting to assist his girlfriend Alessia Zecchini, another swimmer.
When he passed away, he was 39 years old.
After his passing, friends referred to Stephen as a “guardian angel” and a “hero.”
He passed away while scuba diving at the well-known dive location at the Dahab Blue Hole Arch.
Due to its length and demand for distance swimming, The Arch, a 56m (184ft) long tunnel in the Dahab Blue Hole, is regarded as difficult.

The Italian free diver Alessia is shown in the movie as she works alongside her lover, safety diver Stephen, to attempt to break a world record.
The Deepest Breath had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2023.
Prior to the launch, Netflix had already purchased the distribution rights.
Alessia considers the dive that resulted in Keenan’s demise at the very end of the documentary.
Maybe I could have done more, she admits.

Stephen’s fiancée and the diver he was attempting to save at the time of his death was Alessia Zecchini.
She continues to compete in numerous international competitions each year as a professional free diver.
In addition to beating her own world record at Vertical Blue in the Bahamas in 2021 by reaching a depth of 115 meters, Alessia has established 23 new world records in both the pool and the ocean.
The diver discussed what she misses most about her later partner in The Deepest Breath.
