Wimbledon Celebrating its 100 years on Centre court

Wimbledon Celebrating its 100 years on Centre court. The centre court and croquet club at the Church Road of England was opened 100 years ago in 1922, and the occasion of this century is being celebrated at Wimbledon on Sunday. It is a very special occasion as it shows the debut of scheduled play on the fortnight’s middle Sunday, which has been a rest day at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament traditionally.

On the side of the umpire’s chair, there is a sign with the words “100” and “centre court”. And Wimbledon.com lets all the fans choose their favourite and loved moment of all time via a series of votes.

The world’s oldest tennis tournament Wimbledon celebrated its 100th anniversary. From Serena Williams to Roger Federer to Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, and more have played here over the years. Many have won their historic career matches in Wimbledon and later  the title

The oldest Tennis court currently running Wimbledon Tournament has changed over the years

Many changes and updates have been implied to this structure over time, with new cushioned seats this year. The installation of a retractable roof also increased the capacity from 9899 seats when opened to today 14,974 seats.

What didn’t change over the years was the reverence with the way players regard this place. The sentiments of many players have been linked with the place. Champion Samparas expressed sentiments in a way that his last win at centre court will be the last beating Martin Lee Britain.

He says” When you step on the centre court it feels like the Mecca of tennis out there. The US or French open are great but Wimbledon at centre court is something special.

Some thoughts by Players who played here in past or present:

Tommy Paul who faces Cam Norrie in the 4th round at No. 1 court says “I imagine it as a magical place, I don’t  want to go inside until I’m playing on the centre court.”

Alize Cornet who defeated world no. 1 Iga Swiatek said this is a lucky charm for me. She drafted world no. 1 in 2014 and on Saturday at the same place.

Mihaela Buzarnescu from Romania who was playing in the Wimbledon junior tournament said ” I was Wow by the place, I was impressed by its elegance.”
