WTC Final: According to Rohit, the third umpire could have watched a few more replays of Green’s catch to get rid of Gill: The third umpire’s decision to dismiss Cameron Green’s catch of Shubman Gill in the world test championship (WTC) final has angered Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who claims that he should have seen a little more of a reward.

When Scott Boland got an outside edge off of his defensive prod on the fourth day of the match, the ball flew low to the green’s left at third slip, and Gill was out. Kettleborough evaluated the tall all-arounder’s one-handed catch as a clean catch after seeing many returns of it.

Gill and India captain Rohit Sharma weren’t convinced by the “Out” decision when it was displayed on the big screen because tea was served right away and the fans were debating whether the batter was actually out or not as well as whether Green avoided hitting the ball on the grass when his hand touched the ground after catching it.

“I simply felt let down by the choice and underappreciated. The third umpire ought to have seen a few more replays and more of how the catch was held, in my opinion. I believe he saw it three or four times before being convinced.

“It doesn’t matter if it was distributed or not; what matters is that you have accurate information about everything. It might be about anything; it’s just not about the catch. The decision was made really quickly, and I was a little dissatisfied with that, said Rohit in the post-game press conference after India lost by 209 runs.

Later, utilizing screenshots of Green’s catch and the ‘clapping’ technique, Gill posted a few cryptic messages on Twitter and Instagram. Emoticons for “magnifying glass” and “facepalm”

“You need to be more than 100% certain when a catch like that is made since it’s a final and we were also in that crucial part of the game. Therefore, that left me feeling a little letdown. Also, more camera views ought to have been displayed.

“Only one or two camera perspectives were displayed. In IPL, we have more angles. In IPL, there are ten different angles. I’m not sure why there wasn’t any extreme motion or magnified imagery during a major world event like this. I was a little let down by that, Rohit continued.

Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia, thought Green’s catch to eliminate Gill was reasonable. “I considered that to be a fair capture. Green was a screaming machine, and we’re just players, of course. We leave it in the hands of the umpire, who is likely the best in the world because we are on the pitch.

“He’s seen everything, and he understands the rules. I would likely support his choice more strongly than passionate, emotional spectators watching a giant screen from 100 meters away,” he said in conclusion.
