The 18th match of the Women’s Super Smash 2023-24 took place at Hagley Oval in Christchurch between Canterbury Magicians and Northern Brave.
The game ended in a dramatic draw on the last pitch of the innings.
Following the result, which earned them two points, the Magicians moved up a position on the points table.
They are third in the standings with 12 points after winning two of their seven games. They now have the greatest NRR of the six teams at +0.73.
Otago Sparks dropped to fourth place with three victories and three defeats, while Auckland Hearts remained in fifth place with eight points.
Meanwhile, Wellington Blaze (18) and Central Hinds (16) maintain their top two positions with NRRs of +0.63 and +0.13, respectively.
Northern Brave remains at the bottom of the point’s standings, with only one win thus far.

The combined efforts of Athapaththu and Mackay culminate in an exciting draw between Canterbury Magicians and Northern Brave
Northern Brave was given the toss and elected to bat first. In the fourth over, Caitlin Grey (6) was defeated by Fatima Sana.
Chamari Athapaththu then hammered 35 off 29 balls to set the tone for the rest of the innings.
Sarah Asmussen, on the other hand, changed the tide by dismissing Jess Watkins (8) and
Athapaththu in the following over before Frances Mackay dismissed Sam Curtis for one.
The Brave scored 136/9 because of solid contributions from Marina Lampough (18), Eimear Richardson (18), and Nensi Patel (14).
With three wickets, Asmussen was the Magicians’ standout bowler, while Gabby Sullivan and skipper Mackay both got two.
In response, Kate Anderson and Mackay put on a good 66-run stand for the first wicket until Anderson was dismissed for 41 off 35 balls.
In the 14th over, Madelina Penna (10) was bowled out by Athapaththu.
Fatima Sana (0) and Mackay (51) were dismissed in the 15th and 16th overs, respectively, while Isobel Sharp was dismissed on the first ball of the 17th over.
Kayley Knight and Holly Topp performed the run out of Lea Tahuhu with one run needed off the final delivery, ending in a thrilling stalemate.
