Former champion PV Sindhu returns to action at the India Open 2023, which is scheduled to be held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi from January 17-22. Viktor Axelsen and Chen Yufei, Olympic champions, will lead a star-studded field.

Akane Yamaguchi, the current female singles champion and reigning world champion, will also compete in this event.

Lakshya Sen, the Commonwealth Games gold medalist, and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, the men’s doubles team, will return to defend their titles. The lineup also includes Kidambi Srikanth, who won the event in 2015.

The tournament that will kick off the new season will attract some of the most prominent international badminton players to the Indian capital. Previous World No. 1 Kento Momota, Shi Yuqi, Anders Antonsen, and Lee Zii Jia are among the 32 nations that have entered the men’s singles competition.

In the women’s division, former world champions Nozomi Okuhara and Ratchanok Intanon will compete for the title alongside Korean sensation An Se Young, who counts PV Sindhu among her prized scalps.

The India Open, which has been held as a Super 500 competition since 2018, will now begin in 2023 as a Super 750 competition. For the first time since 2019, spectators will return to the stands, among other changes.

At the India Open, Sindhu will return to the court for the first time in five months. In August, the Pullela Gopichand protégé competed for the last time at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

The World’s No. 6 won gold, a pressure break on her lower leg while heading to greatness saved her down and out until the end of the year. PV Sindhu was absent from a number of significant competitions during this time, including the BWF World Championships and the BWF World Tour Finals.

Sindhu will try to overcome her injuries and begin the new season strongly at home.

The Yonex-Sunrise India Open badminton tournament will be held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi from January 17 to 22, and it will feature Olympic and world champions Chen Yufei of China, Akane Yamaguchi of Japan, and Viktor Axelsen of Denmark.

The prestigious tournament, which will be held at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall, has been elevated from the previous Super 500 category to the BWF World Tour Super 750 category for the current tournament cycle. It is a part of the Asian circuit that will begin the new international badminton season.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Yonex-Sunrise India Open, which was organized by the Badminton Association of India (BAI) and held in 2022, was held behind closed doors.

Photo courtesy of BAI “We are delighted to have such responses and big names competing for titles in the upcoming edition.” Unfortunately, the pandemic prevented fans from seeing the players in action, but now they can come and see their favorite stars live. Sanjay Mishra, BAI Secretary General, stated, “We look forward to a mega week full of exciting badminton action.” Additionally, the upgraded Super 750 status elevates this event to a level of grandeur that exceeds all expectations.
