Former skipper makes daring forecast for the 2024 T20 World Cup
Asghar Afghan, a former captain is confident that Afghanistan will be one of four semifinalists in the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup.
The World Cup is set to take place in the West Indies and the United States in June. Afghanistan’s five-team group includes the West Indies and New Zealand, with just two advancing to the Super Eights.
Asghar expressed confidence that the squad would make the top four because the circumstances in the Caribbean were similar to those in Asia.
He believes that the team’s recent performance at the ODI World Cup will drive them to even greater heights in the shorter format.
Afghanistan is coming off a stunning 2-1 series triumph against the UAE. And has won three of their previous four bilateral T20Is.
They will meet Asian superpower India in a three-match T20I series that starts on January 11.
“It will be much better than this ODI World Cup” – Asghar Afghan
Asghar Afghan feels that playing more competitive cricket against top-ranked countries can enable Afghanistan do even better than it did in the last ODI World Cup.
Despite placing in the bottom fifth of the tournament’s points table, Afghanistan surpassed expectations, winning four of nine games.
It included impressive victories over England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
The former captain emphasized the importance of proper preparation for the T20 World Cup. Which is equivalent to that necessary for the just completed ODI edition.
Despite a few inconsistent successes, Afghanistan has failed to go past the Super 10s in previous T20 World Cups.
