Although Australian player Nathan Lyon Ashes series appears to be over after he suffered a serious calf injury while playing on Thursday.
But with his team looking to add more runs to their lead over England, he surprised almost everyone on the field when he came out to bat at number 11. What followed was one of the strangest entrances ever witnessed on the famous ancient field.
As well as in partnership batting with fast bowler Mitchell Starc, Lyon, playing their 100th consecutive Test match. Which is looked like an easy target in the face of a hostile bowling game. Surprisingly, despite being on one leg, he played some learned shots but was not capable of running between the wickets. It means the only option left for him and Starc to push the score was to try and reach the limits.
How Nathan Lyon managed everything?
At one point, Starc was denied a six by England stand-in fielder Rehan Ahmed by fielding brilliantly at the boundary, and in confusion, Lyon somehow managed to complete a leaping single between the wickets and collapsed. In the end, Lyon faced 13 balls, hit a boundary, and shared a partnership of 15 runs, including six with Starc, to set Australia a strong 371-win target for England, inspired by Ben Stokes. This was 12 more than the successful target pursued by England in 2019 at Headingley.
What Lyon Said in an interview?
In an interview with sources, Lyon said he doesn’t hesitate to take one for the team.
Lyon said: “I wanted to bat. It was my decision.” “I knew the risks, but I would do anything for this team, and you never know how big a 15-run partnership in an Ashes series can be. “I’m proud of myself for going out there and doing it. If there were a tomorrow, I would do it over and over and over again.”
Nathan Lyon said he had a few words with England bowler James Anderson before taking the pitch.
Lyon said: “He asked me if I was stupid.” “And I said yes.” Lyon’s exploits no doubt inspired Starc and captain Pat Cummings, who between them led England to 45-4 before the hosts closed at 114-4, needing 257 runs to win on day five.
