Arsenal 2-1 Aston Villa: Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli strike in order to maintain Gunners’ perfect start: The predatory instincts of Gabriel Jesus and a left-foot finish from Gabriel Martinelli led Arsenal a 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Wednesday. The Gunners performed 100 percent from the start to the Premier League season.

The Brazilian duo went on to score either side of the break. It gave Arsenal a deserved triumph as it dominated the match. They advanced to a maximum 15 points from five matches.

Jesus initiated the scoring in the 31st minute. Martinelli acquired the 77th-minute winner. It was three minutes after Villa had equalized through substitute Douglas Luiz. Doughas Luiz scored directly from a corner.

The fourth defeat of Villa in five games added to the mounting pressure on manager Steven Gerrard.

Arsenal had opportunities before Granit Xhaka’s effort from a tight angle was fumbled by goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. It was snapped up by Jesus scoring from close range.

Martinez made a stunning save on the stroke of halftime. Martinelli gave a rasping shot. He, soon after the break, denied a similar effort from home captain Martin Odegaard.

The attacking effort of Villa was negligible. Leon Bailey forced a corner with a 73rd-minute shot and allowed Luiz to whip it directly into the net from the set-piece.

The goal was checked and Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale tangled with Boubacar Kamara. The corner was taken and found himself stuck behind the Villa attacker failing to deal with the in-swinging effort.

But Arsenal restored its advantage with a long ball down the left to set Martinelli on his way for the winner. He played the ball inside and Bukayo Saka whipped it back across the goal giving an opportunity to Martinelli to finish with aplomb.

Arsenal takes its unbeaten record to Old Trafford to play against Manchester United on Sunday. There remains a little breathing room for Gerrard and his beleaguered side which will be hosting champion Manchester City on Saturday.
