In an effort to recover from their defeat in Europe, Arsenal takes on Crystal Palace at the Emirates on Sunday (March 19). The Heavy armament specialists were taken out of the UEFA Europa Association by Wearing CP, who won 5-3 on punishments to progress to the quarterfinals.
Having attracted the main leg 2-2 Lisbon, the sides played out another draw. After the hour mark, Pedro Goncalves canceled out Arsenal’s first-half opener scored by Granit Xhaka. In extra time, there was no difference between the two teams because of the penalties. Gabriel Martinelli missed the crucial kick for Mikel Arteta’s team, sending Sporting through.
Given Arsenal’s success this season and their rise to the top of the Europa League contenders, it was a real surprise. However, the Gunners are five points ahead of holders Manchester City at the top of the league and have won their last five games in the top division.
Palace, on the other hand, is in 12th place with only 27 points from as many games. This season, they have only won six games, the last of which was on New Year’s Eve. The Eagles are winless in 2023, having lost three league games in a row without scoring.

Arsenal is currently at the top of the league, so Palace could be confident that they won’t lose at the Emirates, where they haven’t lost in their last four visits. The Gunners should easily win unless they hit another stunner as they did in Europe midweek.
Prediction: Arsenal 2-0 Crystal Palace
There have been 52 previous encounters, of which Arsenal has won 30 and lost only six. Arsenal and Palace have drawn four of their last seven matches. Arsenal will attempt to complete a league double over Palace for the first time since 2017-18 after defeating them 2-0 earlier this season.
With three draws in their last four Premier League games against Arsenal, Palace has not lost. This season, Arsenal has won eight of their nine Premier League matches against London derbies.
As if playing 120 hours in the Europa League wasn’t bad enough, Arsenal lost Takehiro Tomiyasu (knee) and William Saliba (back) to injuries in the first half on Thursday night. Arteta is worried that Saliba may have had another serious problem.
The extent of Saliba’s concern is unknown at this time, but Rob Holding can anticipate making his first Premier League start in his likely absence, and the defensive duo of Eddie Nketiah and Mohamed Elneny will be welcomed into the hospital.
Gabriel Jesus played 45 minutes in his first start since the World Cup on Thursday, but Leandro Trossard, who set a record with three assists in the first half at Craven Cottage, is leading the charge.
Meanwhile, interim Palace coach McCarthy must manage without Arsenal loanee Albert Sambi Lokonga, who cannot play against his parent club. However, Will Hughes and/or James McArthur may return from illness to mitigate the impact.
