On Sunday, February 19, Atalanta and Lecce will face off in the 23rd round of Serie A at the Gewiss Stadium. The team led by Gian Piero Gasperini has won four straight at home and will try to keep the momentum going into the weekend.
Atalanta beat Lazio 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday to get back to winning ways. Before that, on January 31, Gasperini’s team lost 1-0 to Inter Milan in the Coppa Italia, and four days later, they lost 1-0 to Sassuolo. Atalanta is third in Serie A with 41 points from 22 games, equal to AS Roma and AC Milan in points.
In the meantime, Lecce played well as a team in their last match, a 1-1 draw with Roma. On February 4, they won 2-0 at Cremonese, snapping a four-game losing streak. Lecce is tied with Fiorentina and Sassuolo for 13th place in the points table with 24 points from 22 games.

Despite Atalanta’s struggles in recent weeks, the Gewiss Stadium should be buzzing this weekend after four consecutive victories at home. They ought to secure a narrow victory to maintain their excellent home record.
Prediction: Atalanta 2-1 Lecce
Atalanta has a better record in this matchup, having won seven of their previous thirteen meetings. Lecce has won two games during this time period, splitting the spoils four times. Atalanta has won three of their last seven matches against Lecce at home.
Lecce have not won in five of their last six league games, drawing three times and losing twice, heading into the weekend. Since losing to AZ Alkmaar 1-0 in a friendly match on December 29, Atalanta has won their last four competitions at home.
Gian Piero Gasperini will be without several starters this weekend due to injury and suspension, threatening to disrupt his team’s midseason momentum. With an ACL tear, Hans Hateboer has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, and Giorgio Scalvini and Marten De Roon both have one-match suspensions for accumulated bookings.
Ederson could play in central midfield alongside Teun Koopmeiners because of Mario Pasalic’s ankle injury. Jeremie Boga ought to support the established partnership between Lookman and Hojlund in the beginning; alternative Duvan Zapata is not present due to a problem with his thigh. In the meantime, Lecce lost Spanish midfielder Joan Gonzalez to a suspension this week.
Kristoffer Askildsen and Youssef Maleh are also unlikely to start because of injuries, so Thorir Johann Helgason may get a rare chance in the middle of the park. Marin Pongracic (ankle) and Kastriot Dermaku (thigh) remain out for the visitors, who typically play in a 4-3-3 formation with Lorenzo Colombo, top scorer Gabriel Strefezza, and Federico Di Francesco as their attacking options.
The latter’s favorite Serie A opponent is Atalanta, as he has scored four goals against them in four different matches: Bologna, SPAL, Empoli, and then Lecce in the reverse matchup this season.
