On Sunday, March 5, Sporting Braga takes on Rio Ave in a Primeira Liga matchday 23 contest. On Monday, February 27, the hosts suffered a 2-1 defeat at Vitoria Guimares. Alvaro Djalo was sent off in injury time after scoring a consolation goal in the 88th minute before Tiago Silva and Safira gave Guimares the lead in the first half.
His red card was a third of the game, with Braga getting two while Tiago Silva was shipped off for the hosts. In contrast, Rio Ave prevailed 1-0 at home over Chaves to earn all three points. In the 54th minute, Fabio Ronaldo scored the winning goal.
Braga has had a rough few weeks, which culminated in their defeat by Fiorentina in the UEFA Europa League. They’ve also lost steam in the race for the title because of their poor run. With 27 points from 22 games, the win elevated them to ninth place in the standings. In contrast, Braga is in third place with 49 points.

The Archbishops will be happy to be back in their familiar surroundings after losing their previous two games on the road. They have won nine of their last ten domestic games at home, giving them a strong record in front of their fans. However, their recurring theme has been defensive frailty.
As a result of Braga’s consistent success in games against teams that are heavily favored, they should prevail comfortably.
Prediction: Braga 2-0 Rio Ave
This will be the 55th gathering between the different sides, with Braga driving 24-15. In their most recent meeting, which took place in September 2022, Braga won 3-2 on the road. At least three goals have been established in four of their last six meetings.
Across all competitions, Braga has won their last nine domestic home games. Rio Ave hasn’t won in four away games, and their last seven competitive games away have all had two or fewer goals. In their last nine competitive games, Braga has only kept one clean sheet.
Braga will be without forward Djalo, who is currently on suspension after receiving a red card during the team’s loss to Vitoria de Guimaraes last week. Djalo is 23 years old. After receiving an early bath in the preceding game, Sikou Niakate, who has made 15 league appearances this season, is also suspended for Sunday’s match.
Paulo Oliveira should get his 12th league start of the season in place of the French defender, pairing up with Vitor Tormena, a 27-year-old center-back. While Joca, a Portuguese midfielder, is out of action since September with a seventh knee injury, Rio Ave will have to deal with it.
Vitor Gomes, a veteran midfielder, has been out injured for the last seven games, and the 35-year-old is also out of the trip to the Estadio Braga Municipal.
