On Tuesday evening, Bristol Rovers will play Plymouth Argyle at the Memorial Stadium in the EFL Trophy quarterfinal, a matchup between two League One teams.
This season, the Gas have already played the Pilgrims in the EFL Trophy. In the group stage, the Gas lost to the Pilgrims on penalties at Home Park, but both teams went on to win comfortably.
Plymouth is also having a great season in League One. They are currently leading the league, five points ahead of Sheffield Wednesday, their closest rival, as they attempt to return to the second division for the first time since 2010.
Even though the Pilgrims have given up the most goals of any team in the top six, they have started to play better defense in recent weeks. In their last six league games, they have only given up two goals and won four of them.
🖊️ Argyle's fifth signing of the January window is Tyreik Wright, who signs from Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee.

We think that Plymouth Argyle and Bristol Rovers could both score in a game that should be a good one with little difference between the two teams.
There shouldn’t be much there, and a draw seems like a pretty good outcome. We’re leaning toward a hard-fought draw at the end of this one because of this.
When looking at the statistics for their head-to-head matches dating back to 23 March 2019, Bristol Rovers won one of those matches, Plymouth Argyle won 1, and the other four were drawn in regular time.
During those matches, the two teams combined to score 17 goals, with 9 coming from The Pirates and 8 from The Pilgrims. 2.83 goals have been scored on average per game.
On League One match day 16, Bristol Rovers defeated Plymouth Argyle 2-2 in their previous league encounter.
