First T20 century hit by Virat Kohli: The cricket king

Virat Kohli began playing Twenty20 cricket in 2007, but he didn’t make his India debut in the Twenty20 International competition until 2010. But it took the Delhi batsman nearly nine years to score his first century in the format.

While playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL against the Gujarat Lions on April 24, 2016, Virat Kohli scored his first T20 century. In Rajkot, despite it being a losing cause, he hit an unbeaten hundred off sixty balls.

Two times before, Kohli has nearly reached three digits in the format. In one IPL 2013 encounter, he was dismissed for 99 against the Delhi Daredevils. Earlier in the season, he had remained undefeated at 93 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Earlier in 2016, he had also been unbeatable on 90 and 85 against Australia in two different Twenty20 Internationals. Virat Kohli also smashed an unmatched 89 against the West Indies just one month before his first century against the Gujarat Lions.

IPL Centuries Hit by King Kohli

After scoring his first T20 century against the Gujarat Lions in the 2016 Indian Premier League, Virat Kohli went on to hit three more tons in the same season, finishing as the tournament’s top scorer with 973 runs. The score continues to hold the record for the most runs ever scored by a hitter in a single IPL season.

In addition to his three IPL 2023 hundreds, the star batsman’s only other three-digit performance in the championship was a 100 off 58 balls against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in 2019.

Virat Kohli’s undefeated 113 off 72 balls against the Rajasthan Royals in 2023 stands as his greatest IPL score to date. In 2016, he was dismissed after scoring the same amount in 50 balls against Kings XI Punjab.

    Virat Kohli: T20I century

On September 8, 2022, Virat Kohli earned his abandoned T20I century. While facing Afghanistan in the T20 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates. In the Super Four match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Kohli opened the innings with KL Rahul and hit an undefeated 122 off only 61 balls to propel India past 200 and then to a massive 101-run victory. Twelve fours and six sixes punctuated the knock.

It’s interesting to note that his lone T20I century is still Virat Kohli. The highest total in T20 cricket overall and his only ton in the shortest format played abroad.

The home field of Virat Kohli’s IPL franchise, RCB, in Bengaluru is at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Where he has struck four of his nine hundred in Twenty20 cricket.
